      Will of John Taliaferro of the Parish of St. Mary's in Essex County, Gent., dated 1 June 1715.
      Unto my son Lawrence the plantation he now liveth together with the land thereto belonging. Also three Negros Cain, Grace and Beck now in his possession.
      Unto my son John the plantation whereon he now liveth together with the land thereto belonging. Also two Negros Frank and Nancy now being in his possession and likewise fifty pounds sterling mony of England.
      Unto my daughter Mary a ring of twenty shillings value. Unto my daughter Elizabeth 78 pounds of sterling money of England being a part unpaid of a portion promised her in marriage.
      Unto my son Charles 300 acres lying in a neck commonly known by the name of the old Church Neck within the aforesaid parish of St. Mary's, and one moiety of a tract of land taken up and pattened by me in partnership with my brother Francis Taliaferro deceased lying at the head of the Mount Creek.
      Unto my son Robert 675 acres of land being one moiety of a dividend lying in the Golden Vale Swamp.
      Unto my son Zachariah 675 acres of land the other moiety of the said devidend of land lying in the Golden Vale Swamp.
      Unto my son Richard one moiety of the land. I now live on, viz. the back half of the devidend.
      Unto my son William after the decease of my loveing wife the other moiety of the land whereon I now live, viz. the, half next the river together with the plantation thereon.
      The land aforementioned lying at the head of the Mount was taken up and pattented by me in partnership with my deceased brother Francis Taliaferro but no division made. In the lifetime of my said deceased brother I did purchase of him 100 acres lying on Rappahannock River and adjoyning to 1000 acres formerly granted by my deceased brother to me. The sale not being recorded in any Court of record, upon my said deceased brother's heir at law affirming the purchase 100 acres unto my son John then my son. John do make sure the lower moiety of the said devidend of land lying at the head of the Mount Creek unto such heir.
      If either of my sons Robt. and Zachariah shall happen to dye before they attain to the age of one and twenty then the whole 1350 acres become the survivour of them.
      If either of my sons Richard and William shall dye before they attain to the age of one and twenty then the whole 600 acres become the survivour.
      My whole personal estate, goods and chattels, my mill and Negroes do remain together entire without distribution to pay debts and legacies, then equally divided between my loveing wife and seven children Charles, Sarah, Robert, Zachariah, Catherine, Richard and William.
      My said mill between my sons Richard and William, and if sons dye to the survivor.
      My sons Charles, Robert, Zachariah, Richard and William executors .

The deed recites that said Robert Taliaferro and Lawrence Smith had on the 26th of March, 1666, surveyed and patented 6,300 acres, in what is now Essex County, Virginia.

      TO ALL XPIAN People to whom these presents shall come I FRANCIS TALLIAFERRO of the County of GLOUCESTER in Collony of Virginia Gent., Sonn and heire apparent of ROBERT TALLIAFERRO, late of County of Rappa. in the Collony aforesaid deced send Greeting in or: Lord God everlasting. Know yee that for as much as my deced Father, ROBERT TALLIAFERRO, joyntly with LAURENCE SMITH of the County of GLOUCESTER Gent. on the 26th day of March in ye yeare of or: Lord One thousand Six hundred Sixty and six take up and Patent Six thousand & three hundred acres of land being in the aforesaid County of Rappa: Beginning at the mouth of SNOW CREEKE on the South side of Rappa. River and thence running the several courses and distances in the sd Pattent set down and expressed as by said Pattent relation had may appeare and further forasmuch as my said deced Father and the said LAURENCE SMITH by their joynt writing under their hands dated the 16th day of May 1667 and duly acknowledged and recorded in GLOUCESTER COUNTY COURT the same day did mutually agree that if either of them should die before division of the said lands that then & in such case the heires of him soe dying should have equal! right with the Survivors of and unto the said Six thousand three hundred acres of land by them Pattented as by ye records of said Deed may appeare Now Further Know yee that I the said FRANCIS TALLIAFERRO for the good will Natural love and affection which I bear unto my well beloved Brother, JOHN TALLIAFERRO, of the aforesaid County of Rappa., Gent. and for ye future advancemt. of my said Brother (he being now intended by the prmission of Almighty God to marry with SARAH the Daughter of said LAURENCE SMITH) and for divers other causes me thereunto moving have given and by this my prsent indented Deed of Gift doe freely and absolutely give unto my said Brother, JOHN TALLIAFERRO, his heirs, One thousand acres of land being part of the abovesaid Divident and to be laid out and bounded with lines of marked trees as followeth (that is to say) To begin at the Fork of SNOW CREEKE BRANCH by or near the PATH that leads to the FORT and from thence runing West North West for the breadth and South West and by West into the Woods for length to the extent of the Pattent and all the right and demand which I the said FRANCIS TALLIAFERRO now have unto the said land To have and to hold unto my said Brother, JOHN TALLIAFERO, and to his heirs To have and to hold to the use and enjoy without the lawfull lett of the said FRANCIS TALLIAFERRO my heirs or any other persons claiming under me and further I the said FRANCIS TALLIAFERRO either in person or by my lawfull Attorney will make acknowledgment of these prsents in

Know yee that in as much as my said deced Father joyntly with LAURENCE SMITH of the County of GLOUCESTER and Collony aforesaid did take up and pattent Six thousand three hundred acres of land being in the said County of Rappa: and beginning at the mouth of SNOW CREEK on the South side of Rappa. River & thence running the severall coruses in the Pattent for the same expressed as by the said Pattent dated the 26th day of March Anno Dom: One thousand Six hundred Sixty and six (relation thereto may appeare) and also for as much as my said deced Father and the said LAURENCE SMITH by their mutuall agreement under their hands and recorded in GLOUCESTER COUNTY COURT the 16th day of May 1667 did oblige themselves each that if either of them should happen to dye before division of the said lands made the heires of him soe dying should have equall right and propriety with the Survivor. Now know yee that I the said FRANCIS TALLIAFERRO for the natural love and affection which I beare unto my dear Brothers, RICHARD and CHARLES TALLIAFERRO, and the desire I have of their future setticmt. and for diverse other good considerations have granted unto my said Brothers, RICHARD and CHARLES TALLIAFERRO, also to their heires Sixteen hundred acres of land part of the abovesd Six thousand three hundred of land and for their heirs to be laid out and bounded with marked trees as followeth (that is to say) to begin at the upper corner tree of the head of JOHN TALLIAFERROs land by me to him convayed by Deed of Equally date and runing West for length according to the back line of the said Patent and for the breadth upon JOHN TALLIAFERROs land according to the Pattent and all the right wch I now have To have and to hold the said Sixteen hundred acres of land with all its rights unto the said RICHARD and CHARLES TALLIAFERRO and their heires forever. THO: WHITE of the County of Richmond of the other part; Witnesseth that whereas there was a certaine parcell or tract of Land lying on the North side of Rappahanock River in the County of Richmond upon PERYS CREEK conteyning Three hundred ninty three acres & three quarters of Land survayed taken up & patented by the abovesaid JOHN TALIAFERRO as by Patent bearing date the 28th day of August 1690 relacon being thereunto had will more at large appeare, Now Know yee therefore that I the said JOHN TALIAFERRO for the sum of Five thousand pounds of tobacco & caske to him the said JOHN TALIAFERRO well & truly paid by these pr:sents sell & confirme unto the said THOMAS WHITE his heires & assignes a small part of the aforesaid Tract or parcell of Land conteyning by estimacon One hundred acres of Land or thereabouts be it more or less within these following bounds (vizt.) Beginning at a -white Oake a corner tree of the supposed land of Mr. RICHARD CAREY a mile from the River, thence North East and by North ninty six perches to a Hickory neere a Plantacon, thence through the said Plantacon North 80 degrees West seaventy two perches to another Hickory standing in the line of FRANCIS HAILES neere a small branch, thence West halfe a point Northerly a lo age the said HAILES line to the Line of Capt., SAMLL. MATHEWS, thence alonge the said MATHEWS line to the first menconed station, Together with all houses buildings gardens orchards fences waters with all other appurtinances to the same Land belonging; To have & to hold to the said WHITE forever free & cleare & absolutely free & cleared to him the said WHITE to him his heires & assignes forevermore, Further more the said JOHN TALIAFERRO for himsel.fe his heires promise that the said THOMAS WHITE his heirs shall at all times hereafter peaceably & quietly occupie the said part of the said land & premisses before men coned to his own use Without any interruption of or by them the said TALIAFERRO & SARAH his Wife or either of them their heires or by any other persons under them, And further that he the said TALIAFERRO & SARAH his Wife & heires of the said SARAH shall at all times hereafter when required acknowledge this Conveyance in Open Court for the County of Richmond & upon reasonable request & at the costs & charges in the Law of the said WHITE his heires, make & acknowledge every such reasonable & lawfull assurances in the Law whatsoever for the further conveying of the said Land & premisses as by him the said WHITE his heires or their Coun cell learned in the Law shall be required provided aiwayes & it is the true meaning of these pr:sents that if the said WHITE shall within the terme of Eight yeares be molested or disturbed from of the said land he the said WHITE at his own cost making all possible defence lin the Law for the menteynance & defence of the same & should after such defence made be turned off or lose the said Land, then the said TALIAFERRO doth oblige himselfe his heires to pay back againe to the said WHITE his heires Five thousand pounds of tobacco & caske.       Deed. 10 Sept 1704. John Battaile of St Marys parish, Essex Co., sells Charles Smith a tract of land, _ Whereas John Battaile purchased of Robert Taliaferro and Sarah his wife 300 acres on 30th March 1687, and also purchased from Francis Taliaferro and Elizabeth his Wife 300 acres on 5th Sept 1687, both parcels of land equalling 600 acres. And since having obtained a patent for the said 600 acres as lapsing from Thomas Button as marrying the relict of John Gillett, and by deed of assignmentent the back of the patent, madeover-to Charles Smith ( for £250. sterling pd by Smith to Battaile ) the 600 acres, less 125 acres formerly sold by Battaile to Robert Thomas. Also reserving a plot 20 ft square "where the graves now are for a Burying place for me and my family", The property lying in St. Marys parish, Essex Co. This deed to confirm the transaction. -

      Whereas John Lomax of said county, Gent., and Elizabeth his wife late Elizabeth Wormley have, by deeds of lease and release, 7-8 July 1704 sold to me John Taliaferro all that tract called Portobago containing 3423 acres, being all the land on the lower side of Portobago Creeke or Swamp.., contained in and being part of the track called Portobago, and 400 acres in Gloucester County late in the possession of Samuel Smith and Ann his wife which was formerly given to Elizabeth now wife of the said John Lomax by Thomas Dawkins, deceased, formerly husband of her the said Anne' Smith.

      8 April 1707. Gawin Corbin of Middlesex County to John Lomax and Elizabeth his wife. Whereas Gawin Corbin and John Lomax and Elizabeth his wife late Elizabeth Wormley daughter of Ralph Wormley, late of Virginia, Esqr., deceased, hold a tract commonly called Portobago containing 3423 acres in Essex County, formerly granted to Sir Thomas Lunsford, Knt. and Baronet, by patent 24 Oct. 1650, and whereas Gawin Corbin hath an estate for life in the land, the reversion after the death of Corbin being the proper inheritance of John Lomax and Elizabeth his wife late Elizabeth Wormley in fee simple, All the abovementioned land granted to Sir Thomas Lunsford (reserving the use of one plantation, called Corbin's Quarter with the buildings and fencing thereon until 9 January next and no longer).
      Consideration upon Corbin's paying 100 sterling, Lomax and Elizabeth his Wife conveyed their right of inheritance in an island together with the marsh adjoining, containing 500 acres
