Nov 10, 1771 from Clement Kennedy of CC, to John Stromatt of CC, merchant, Sd Stromatt, in 1770, took up and borrowed from the Commissioners for emitting Bills of Credit in terms of an Act of Assembly passed in 1760, $1000 in bills of credit upon the joint and several bond and security of sd Stromatt and Kennedy. Sd Stromatt, out of the $1000, lend to Kennedy bills of credit to the amount of 250 £ each dollar discounted and reckoned at the rate of 7 shilling and 6 pence, upon the same terms and at the same interest as sd Stromatt borrowed and took up the same_ Now this deed witnesses that sd Kennedy, to better secure to sd Stromatt the payment of the 250 £and interest, and to indemnify Stromatt from the payment to the afd
Commissioners, and for 250 £so lent as afd by Stromatt to Kennedy, and for 5 shillings to Kennedy paid by Stromatt, Kennedy gives Stromatt a tract of land called Milford, lying in CC on the east side of Piscataway River near the head of Coles Cr, containing about 100 acres, as by the patent for the same. Also, a tract of land called Thomasport, lying in CC on the east side of Potomack River, and bounded by a clift by sd river called-the salt Clift, a corner tree of land called Milford formerly in the possession of James Stoddart, containing about 226 acres. In 1770, sd Kennedy, at the request of sd Stromatt, joined in and executed a bond together, with and as security for Stromatt, to the Commissioners for emitting Bills of Credit for the payment of $1000, by him taken up and borrowed from sd Commissioners, by virtue of an Act of Assembly, made and passed in 1769, out of which $1000 Stromatt lent Kennedy bills of credit to the amount of 250 £, discounting dollars at 7 shillings and 6 pence each, at the same interest and on the same terms as Stromatt himself borrowed the same. Now this deed witnesses that Stromatt, for better indemnifying Kennedy from the payment to sd Commissioners or others, of 125 £, being the balance of sd $1000 in bills of credit by Stromatt borrowed as afd, and the interest thereof, and for 5 shillings to him paid by Kennedy, Stromatt gives Kennedy, a tract of land called Johns Debart, lying in CC, and bounded by the south side of the Hoggs branch, containing about 245 acres. Also, a tract of land in CC called Johns Chance, lying between a tract of land called Frankom and another called Galloways Beginning at a stone marked TS 1741 lying in a branch that falls into Lawsons Marsh, containing about 100 acres. If, however, Stromatt, when demanded by sd Commissioners, pays the 125 £with interest, and fully indemnifies Kennedy, then this deed shall be void. Signed - Jon Stromatt.
