THIS INDENTURE made this Sixteenth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty nine, Between HENRY FITZHUGH of County of STAFFORD, Esqr., of one part and DEMSEY CARREL of County of Westmorland, Planter, of other part; Witnesseth that HENRY FITZHUGH in consideration of the rents conditions and covenants herein after nam'd and reserv'd on part of DEMSEY CARREL to be paid perform'd and kept hath and by these presents doth demise grant and to farm let one parcel of land containing One hundred acres lying in County of Westmorland and Parish of Washington and bounded; Beginning at a Stake being the last corner of a parcel of land laid off for JAMES RUSSEL & from thence (reversing the course) running N. 64d. E. 48 po. to a white Oak, thence S. 22d W. 54 po. to a red Oak, thence S. 47d. E. 158 po. to a small Oak saplin, thence N. E. 90 po. to a red Oak by the Main Road standing in WADDY's line, thence to the first station, containing One hundred acres with all houses orchards profits and appurtenances to the same belonging; To have and to hold the parcel of land with appurtenances unto DEMSEY CARREL & his heirs during the term of the lives of him said DEMSEY
CARREL and FRANCES his Wife or the life of the longest liver of them; paying to HENRY FITZHUGH his heirs every year during the term on the Feast of St. Luke, being the Eighteenth day of October, the neat sum and quantity of Five hundred pounds of tobacco and cask, the tobacco to be made on the said land and from thence roll'd to such convenient Rolling Houses or Warehouses on the Water side as the Laws from time to time shall appoint and direct as also at the time aforesaid four Hens, Capons or Pullits, and DEMSEY CARREL his heirs will within three years of the date of these presents plant upon the premises fifty Apple trees, well and sufficiently repair the houses and pay the Quit rents to the Chief Lord of the Fee and save HENRY FITZHUGH his heirs harmless and indemnify'd from the same, In Witness whereof the parties above mentioned have interchangeably set their hands and seals the day and year first above written

Guardian of WILLIAM FITZHUGH, Son of HENRY FITZHUGH, Esqr., deceased, came into Court and personally acknowledged this Lease of Land for Lives passed by the said Decedt. to DEMSEY CARRELL to be his proper act and deed, which said Lease doth now of right belong to ASBURY REMY as my appear by an Assignment thereon endorsed, all which on motion of the said REMY is admitted to Record
