      Apr 23, 1743 from Walter Pye of PG, to James Edelen of Page Walter Pye, per letter of attorney, is acting as the attorney of Charles Pye Esq of PG, to lease land in Mattawoman Neck belonging to sd Chas Pye, for one or two lives. This indenture witnesses that sd Walter Pye, on behalf of sd Chas Pye, leases to sd James Edelen, during the term of James Edelen's natural life, and for the natural life of Henry Queen, a tract of land called Marians Disturbance, bounded by a hill near Indian Georges corn field, Mattawoman Cr, the mouth of the Town Gutt, John Marings (Mannings) land, containing 75 acres. The rent is 400 lbs of tobacco May 1, 1744, and 800 lbs of tobacco each May 1 thereafter, and 11/2 bushels of wheat each Sep 1, and 1 fat turkey each Christmas, and 4 fat chickens at midsummer starting in 1745. If the rent is more than 30 days behind, Charles Pye may repossess the premises. James Edelen shall plant an orchard of 150 apple trees of good winter fruit, within 4 years next, and the same well maintain. The premises are to be left in tenantable condition. James Edelen shall not cut down or sell any timber or wood on the premises, or cut timber in a wasteful manner, further than to clear the land for planting & sowing or any other use for the plantation. If wood is cut down in a wasteful manner, Charles Pye may cart it away and use it himself. Charles Pye may cut down any white oak timber to saw into plank or heading or pipe hhd or barrel staves, or any black walnut or cherry tree or any crooked ship timber on sd premises, and to convert and carry away the same, leaving enough timber for the use of the sd plantation. Five acres in one comer of the premises shall be left uncut of the timber thereon, which is to be left to grow and improve.
