      This Indenture made 30th May 1767 between PHILIP JACOB IRION of County of Culpeper of one part and JAMES CHRISTIE, HERMAN MEYER and CHRISTIAN MEYER of City of London Merchants of the other part. Whereas the said James Christie, Herman Meyer and Christian Meyer did by a certain Instrument of Writing dated August 1764 Enter into an agreement with Philip Jacob Irion and a certain JOHN JACOB SCHLOSSER that they would purchase 7000 acres of land in Virginia Maryland and Pennsylvania in their names and for the use of the said James Christie, Herman Meyer, Christian Meyer, Philip Jacob Irion and John Jacob Schlosser one third part whereof to be the property of the said James Christie, one third part the Property of the said Herman and Christian Meyer, and the remaining third part to be the property of Philip Jacob Irion and John Jacob Schlosser as also a further sum (as might be found necessary) to purchase Utensils for carrying on the Business or Manufactory of PEARL POT ASH the Management of which Manufactory was to be left to the said Irion and Schlosser under certain conditions.. In consequence of which agreement Irion and Schlosser in behalf of the said Company have purchased sundry tracts of land in County of Culpeper to the amount of 6545 acres also one Negro man named Jack, one copper still and worm, one set of Black Smith's tools, Six horses, 19 Neat catle with sundry Iron ketles and other utensils for carrying the aforesaid contract into execution. For which the said Christie, Meyer and Meyer have paid about 1600 pounds Sterling which sum by the aforesaid agreement was to be reimbursed to (them) out of the first product of the said Land. But the said Schlosser having withdrawn himself from the said Business and other accidents interveneing no Profits have as yet arisen from the said land whereby Christie, Meyer and Meyer have not been reimbursed the sum, nor any part thereof and Philip Irion being willing to give (them) all the Security in his Power for the payment of his perportinable part of the Disbursements/ or whatever may appear upon a Just setlement to have been expended/ Therefore this Indenture Witnesseth .. Philip Jacob Irion in consideration of his part of the Sum of 1600 pounds Sterling (or whatever may hereafter appear upon a Just Setlement to have been already expended on account of Partnership above mentioned) hath sold unto James Christie, Herman Meyer and Christian Meyer all his right to the 6545 acres of land, Together with the said Negro man Still and Worm, Black Smith's Tools (etc) To hold provided on this condition if Philip Jacob Irion shall cause to be paid his part of the moneys or part of the money advanced in the account on or before the last day of February next ensuing that everything herein contained shall be void .. and it is also provided that in case the Parties agree to carry on the business of Manufactory of Pearl Pot Ash ; nothing herein shall be construed to change the original contract ..

      At Court held for County of Culpeper 15th October 1767 This Deed of Mortgage ordered to be certified and at Court held on 19th November 1770 was fully proved by oaths of John Mitchell Gent..a witness thereto and ordered to be recorded.
