TO ALL XPIAN PEOPLE to whom these prsents shall come Greeting. Know yee that I CHRISTOPHER BUTLER of APPOMATTOX in WESTMORELAND COUNTY have sold unto WILLIAM SERJEANT of Rappahannock a certaine tract of land being in ye FORREST between POTOMACK & RAPPAE: conteyning Three hundred ninety two acres by Pattent granted by Sr: WM: BERKLEY late Governor to him ye sd WM. SERGEANT his heires & assignes forever from me or my heires saving & allwaies reserving one hundred acres of land formerly sold unto JOHN FRANKLIN of Rappae: & not yet laid out for him; To have & to hold all ye prmises wth all houses, orchards, fences & hereditamts. to it belonging as it is granted to CHRISTIPHER BUTLER by a Pattent aforesd. for wch sd land I doe acknowledge to have received full satisfaccon by ye sums of Seven Thousand pounds of good tobacco before signing & sealing, I doe acknowledge my selfe fully satisfied & do promise to acknowledge ye same in Court, ye next Court for County of Rappae: & alsoe that my Wife shall by her Attorney acknowledge hir right of Dower or thirds warranting ye quiet possession of sd prmises wthout ye lett or clayme of any persons & for ye true performance of ye prmises I bind my selfe in ye penal! sum of Fourtteen thousand pounds of tobacco &. cask unto ye sd SERJEANT & his heires or assignes, as Witness my hand & Seale this 6th day of Novembr: 1677

As Witness my hand & Seale the 6th of Novembr: 1677

As Witness my hand & Seale this 6th of Novembr: 1677 allwaies reserving ye Right to One hundred acres sold unto JOHN FRANKLIN wch I doe acknowledge to him by my attorney as aforesaid
