      7 April 1740, Alexander Spotswood Esqr, to William Pannell. Lease for lives of Samuel Pannell (his son) and John Bailey (brother to William Pannell's wife), 50 acres in St. Mark's Parish on the north side of the River Rappidanne, part of 40,000 acres granted to Alexander spotswood and called the Spotsylvania tract.
      Annual rent, 800 pounds of tobacco to be paid at some convenient landing on Rappahannock River within the county of Spotsylvania James Chissum within four years shall plant 300 good frutt trees whereof one third at least to be apple trees.
