Thomas inherited tobacco from his mother's will;
1749 Will of Thomas Edelen calls him "son-in-law (step son) Thomas Dyer" and leaves him 400 acres "Egerton Manor", 300 acres "Stone Hill, Edelen's Thicket, Edelen's Hog Pen" and Negroes after his mother's death (MCW X.39);
James Edelen sold to Thomas "Edelen's Rest" on 22 Oct 1776 (CCG)
It is possible that this Thomas married first, Sarah Swann, daughter of Samuel Swann of Charles Co. Samuel's will written and probated in 1743 names "daughter Sarah Dyer" (MCW VIII.215). The will also leaves "Egelton" plantation to his son Edward Swann. Note the eldest son of Thomas Dyer is named Edward.
20 April 1759 Thomas Dyer sold 100 acres of the 400 acres inherited from Thomas Edelen to Zachariah Bond. (Page 325 - Bowie)

I Peter Robinson, school master, in consideration of 3000 pounds weight of tobacco paid by Thomas Dyar have sold 3 feather beds and furniture, 6 chairs, 9 knives and forks, 1 old Walnut table, 1 square table, 6 tea cups and saucers, 2 tea pots, 12 pewter plates, 6 earthen plates, 2 pewter dishes, 2 iron pots, 1 frying pan, 1 gray mare and her bay yearling colt, 1 flea bitten mare and her bay colt, 1 bull calf, 1 pied cow, 30 head of hogs, 1 pied heifer, 1 woman's side saddle and 2 bridles, 1 man's saddle, 6 head of sheep and also the books following; Laybourns Mathematics, Taylor's Mathematics, Geography, the Travels of Cynes Homer's Iliad Volume 5, the eighth, fourth and second volumes of Shakespeare's plays, the third volume of Cato's letters, Book of Wisdom, the first volume of Old Hams Poems, Dr. {Henry} Sacheverell's Tryal, Hills Arithmetic, Rochester's Poems, The Panthear, the sixth volume of The Spectator, one Bible, one common prayer book, The Siege of Damascus, two chests, one box, three small trunks, in all contained in the said chest and one looking glass. Indenture made March 23, 1759; Thomas Dyar by virtue of the award of Messrs. Thomas Marshall, Bayne Smallwood and John Stoddert of Charles County, Maryland gentleman arbitrators indifferently elected and chosen between Thomas Dyar and William Hicks of St. Mary's County, Maryland being now possessed in his right of 100 acres of land lying in Prince George's County being part of a tract formerly granted unto William Calvert, Esq. for 3000 acres commonly called and known by the name of Piscataway Manor otherwise Calvert Manor (alias Elizabeth Manor) lying in a part of the manor formerly in possession of Thomas Edelen for 400 acres and bounded as follows; beginning at a Locust post and a ashen swamp near Potomac River the reputed beginning of the said Manor and bounded by the Accokeek Branch, the 600 acres in possession of Thomas Noble.
