Subject: Re: [MDSTMARY] Father of James Green (also Dyer, Barnes, and Edelen)

James Green's wife, Elizabeth Dyer, is the d/o Patrick Dyer and Comfort Barnes. Comfort Barnes Dyer married second Thomas Edelen. Apparently, she and Thomas Edelen had been carrying on an affair for some time before Patrick Dyer died, so the paternity of her children is uncertain.
I don't know whether any DNA tests have been performed on straight line male Dyers from Patrick's line, but that could sort out at least which sons were Patrick's and which were actually Thomas Edelen's. My records indicate that she had no children with Thomas Edelen during marriage. Comfort died aft. May 10, 1760.

I descend from two of Comfort Barnes Dyer's children: Elizabeth Dyer (m. James Green) and her brother, Thomas Dyer (m. Henrietta Clements).

Notes I copied and pasted from a list posting list several years ago (when I was more remiss in documenting souces--sorry):

"And the evidence indicates that Comfort apparently provided 'comfort' to Thomas Edelen while she was married to Patrick Dyer. Patrick assaulted Thomas Edelen in 1709; in 1712, the Grand Jury charged "Thomas Edelin" for intimacy with Comfort Dyer (Patrick's wife); and in 1713, the Court heard the case against Thomas Edlin for "Incontenance" (uncontrolled sexual behavior--usually meaning an affair). After Patrick Dyer's death, Thomas Edelen administered Patrick's estate, and married his widow--Comfort Barnes Dyer."

In the Name of God Amen, I Comfort Edelen of Prince Georges
County Widow being Sick and Weak of Body but of Sound and Perfect Mind & Memory Prased to God to make & ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner following That is to Say First and principally I do Command my Soul into the hands of Almighty God, who gave it, hoping thro has mercy & (thes merith) of my Blessed Lord, and Saviour Jesus Christ To received full and free pardon of all my Sins and as for my Temporal Estate I do disposs thereof as followoth.
