      Peter Lamkin's Will
      In the name of God Amen, I Peter Lamkin of the parish of Cople and County of Westmoreland being sick and weak of body but of good and perfect memory do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament.
      Item I give unto my son Matthew Lamkin my plantation whereon I now lives and all the land adjoining to it that I bought of my cousin Lamkin, a mill and 15 acres of land I bought of Samuel Rust, one Negro man Cooper, and the horse called Diamond provided he will make a good and lawful right [deed] to my son Peter Lamkin 100 acres of land that was given and entailed on me by my fathers will.
      Item I give to my son George Lamkin, the land I bought of Benjamin Rust.
      Item I give to my son Peter Lamkin all the land I bought of George Cox and 100 acres adjoining to it that my father gave me by his will, and if Matthew Lamkin refuses to make a good and lawful right [deed] to his brother Peter Lamkin for the 100 acres of land before mentioned my will is that my son Peter Lamkin and his heirs should have the mill and the 15 acres of land and the Negro man that was mentioned for Matthew Lamkin in lieu of the 100 acres of land.
      Item I give to my son James Lamkin all the lands I bought of William Rust.
      My will is that after my debts and legacies are paid off that all the remainder of my estate be it real or personal to be equally divided between my loving wife Ann Lamkin and all my children.
      I do hereby constitute and appoint my loving wife Ann Lamkin and my son Matthew Lamkin and my friend Samuel Rust to be executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 2nd day of November 1757.

      At a court held for Westmoreland County the 29th day of June 1762 this will was proved according to law by the oath of Thaddeus Jackson and Magalene Jackson witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded; and on the motion of Matthew Lamkin one of the executors in the said will named who made oath according to law together with George Simpson and Benedict Middleton his securities entered into and acknowledged bond with condition as the law directs, certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form; previous to which Ann Lamkin, the widow and relict of the said testator in the said will named personally appeared in court and refused to take upon herself the burthen of the execution thereof and absolutely renounced all benefit and advantage which she might have a claim under the said will.

      THIS INDENTURE made this 7th day of March in the twenty eighth year of the Reign of our Sovereign, Lord George the Second, by the grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland, King, Defender of the faith, &c., and in the year of our Lord God one thousand seven hundred fifty and five, Between PETER LAMKIN, Planter, of Cople Parish and Westmorland County of one part and FLEET COX of the same Parish and County of other part; Witnesseth that PETER SMITH [Lamkin] in consideration of sum of twenty five pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand by FLEET COX well and truly paid, the Receipt whereof PETER LAMKIN doth acknowledge, hath and by these presents cloth bargain and sell unto FLEET COX his heirs part of that tract of land which said LAMKIN bought of BENJAMIN RUST containing fifty acres be the same more or less scituate in the Parish and County aforesaid and is bounden joining the land which the said COX bought of MATHEW RUST, from a Chesnut tree corner down to a red Oak by BLICE's ROAD and from thence along the Road to the Run and up the Run to the land of PRESLEY COX and from thence to the beginning; with all its rights members and appurtenances together with all houses orchards profits and commodities; To have and to hold the fifty acres of land be the same more or less and all the premises and every of the rights members and appurtenances to FLEET COX his heirs and PETER LAMKIN for himself his heirs the messuage or tenement and all the premises before sold with the appurtenances unto FLEET COX his heirs, said PETER LAMKIN his heirs and every other person lawfully claiming under him and against the claim of any other persons will warrant and for ever defend by these presents freely and clearly discharged from all incumbrances whatsoever; In Witness whereof the parties to these presents have interchangeably set their hands and seals the day and year first above written Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of

      Lamkin to Wife & Children Deed of Gift
      I Matthew Lamkin of the county of Washington and parish of Cople and for the natural love and affection which I bear to my wife and four sons and for many other causes, me especially moving doe make the following gifts;
      To my wife wife Frances Lamkin, 170 acres of land, 100 acres whereof my father purchased of George Cox and Ellen Cox his wife, the other 70 acres which fell to me by my mother Ann Lamkin, during her life and after her death I give the 170 acres to my three sons, George Lamkin, Charles Lamkin, and Matthew Lamkin in equal proportions.
      I also give to my wife Frances Lamkin, Negro woman Frank during her life and after her death to my son Matthew Lamkin with her future increase.
      I give to my son Benedict Lamkin, Negroes; Old Ealse, Ned and Hannah with her increase.
      I give to my son George Lamkin, Negroes, Sam and Jude and her increase.
      I give to my son Charles Lamkin, three Negroes; Cooper, Will and young Ealse and her increase
      I give to my son Matthew Lamkin, Negro boy Ben and Negro girl Sue with her increase.
      I give to my loving wife Frances Lamkin for the causes aforesaid, my household furniture with my stock of every kind to her own use but if either of my sons which I have by my now present wife should die before they arrive to the age prescribed by law to make any legal devise, that then the surviving children which I have with my present wife Frances Lamkin to have an equal division of such estate as aforesaid given. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 28th September 1772.
