      Lane's Will
      In the name of God Amen, the 19th day of August 1758, I William Lane of Cople parish in the county of Westmoreland being sick in body but of good and sound memory do make, constitute, ordain and declare this my last will and testament in manner form following.
      Item I give and bequeath unto my son James Lane by land and plantation whereon I now live to him and his heirs forever.
      Item I give and bequeath unto my said son James Lane one half of the land that I bought of William Eskridge being and lying in Fairfax County to him and his heirs forever.
      Item I give and bequeath to my son William Carr Lane my tract of land that I bought of Elizabeth Bailey and her son William Bailey to him and his heirs forever
      Item I give unto my son Joseph Lane my land and plantation I bought of William Walker and the other half the land the has not been bequeath already that I bought of William Eskridge to him and his heirs forever lawfully begotten of his body and in default of such heirs to fall to my son William Carr Lane and his heirs forever.
      Item I give and bequeath unto my son James Lane one Negro man named Scissis which he has now in his possession and one Negro boy named Sam to him and his heirs forever.
      Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Hannah Middleton one Negro girl named Magg and her increase forever, and the Negro boy Sam which she has now in her possession to her at her heirs forever, in the cattle that I have already given her they and their increase to her and her heirs forever.
      Item I give and bequeath unto my son William Carr Lane one Negro man named Toby and one Negro girl named Hannah that he has now in his possession and her increase to him and his heirs forever, and one Negro man named Dick to him and his heirs forever.
      Item I give and bequeath unto My Son Joseph Lane, Negro Rose and her increase to him and his heirs forever, Negro boy Tom, Judah and her increase to him and his heirs forever, in Negro girl Prew and her increase to him and his heirs forever.
      Item I give and bequeath unto My Son William Carr Lane, Negro Cate and her increase to him and his heirs forever.
      Item I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Martha Lane during her life or widowhood all my whole estate and after her decease [my children] to receive their lands and legacies.
      Item I give and bequeath unto my sons and daughters my whole estate it has not been bequeath already to be equally divided between James Lane, Hannah Middleton, William Carr Lane and Joseph Lane to them my children and their heirs forever after my loving wife’s decease.
      Item I do constitute and appoint My Loving Wife Martha Lane, James Lane, William Carr Lane and Joseph Lane executrix and executors of this my last will and testament. As witness I have hereunto set my hand and seal

At a court held for the said County the 26th day of August 1760 this last will and testament by William Lane, Sr. deceased was presented into Court by William Carr Lane and Joseph Lane to of the executors therein named who made oath thereto and being proved by the oath of all the witnesses thereto was admitted to record, and upon motion of the said executors and their performance what is usual and such cases a certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.

      THIS INDENTURE made the second day of November in the twenty seventh year of the Reign of our Sovereign, Lord George the Second, by the grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland, King, Defender of the faith, &c., and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty three; Between JAMES LANE and ELIZABETH his Wife of the Parish of LUNNENBURG in County of RICHMOND of one part and SAMUEL HARRISON of Parish of Cople in County of Westmorland of other part; Witnesseth that JAMES LANE and ELIZABETH his Wife in consideration of sum of thirty seven pounds, ten shillings current money of Virginia in hand paid by SAMUEL HARRISON, the receipt whereof they do acknowledge, hath and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto SAMUEL HARRISON and his heirs all that parcel of land containing fifty five acres be the same more or less lying in Parish of Cople and County of Westmorland granted to GEORGE HARRISON by the Proprietors of the Northern Neck of Virginia by Paten bearing date (blank) and in the distribution of GEORGE HARRISON's lands after his decease fell by lot to JAMES HARRISON, Son of the abovesaid GEORGE and by him was conveyed to WILLIAM HARRISON and after the said WILLIAM's decease, fell and descended to ELIZABETH, the Daughter of said WILLIAM, now the Wife of JAMES LANE, who is one of the parties first mentioned in this Indenture and bounded; Begining at a markt. Oak corner tree to the land of SAMUEL HARRISON and extending along the line of DANIEL HARRISON South fifty degrees East twenty four pole to the land of Mr. JOHN CRUMP, deceased, thence along the said CRUMP's and CRAWLEY's land South forty degrees East one hundred fifteen pole to the land of JOHN ARMSTEAD to a marked red Oak, thence along the land of said ARMSTEAD North seventy three degrees West ninety three pole to the land of SAMUEL HARRISON and then along SAMUEL HARRISON's line North forty five degrees East one hundred fifteen poles to the place where it begun, together with all houses orchards commodities and appurtenances to the land and premises belonging; To have and to hold the fifty five acres of land and premises hereby granted and sold with their appurtenances unto SAMUEL HARRISON his heirs to be holden to the Chief Lord or Lords of the fee or fees of the premises by the rents and services for the same due and of right accustomed to be paid, and JAMES LANE and ELIZABETH his Wife for themselves and their heirs do covenant and agree with SAMUEL HARRISON his heirs by these presents that the fifty five acres of land in this Deed conveyed shall be at all times hereafter free and clear from all incumbrances whatsoever; and that SAMUEL HARRISON his heirs at all times hereafter hold and possess the land with appurtenances without the disturbance of JAMES LANE and ELIZABETH his Wife their heirs; In 'Witness whereof- the parties first above mentioned have interchangeably set their hands and seals the day and year first above mentioned

      peaceable and quiet possession and seizen of the within granted land and premises was given and delivered by JAMES LANE and ELIZABETH his Wife unto (blank) by the delivery of Turff and Twigg on the land; To have and to hold the same according to the tenor true intent and meaning of the within written Deed in presence of BEND: MIDDLETON ROBERT MIDDLETON WM. HARTLEY
      Received of SAMUEL HARRISON the sum of thirty seven pounds, ten shillings current money of Virginia, it being the full consideration of the within mentioned land and premises, As Witness our hands this second day of November Anno Dom: 1753
