Here Lyeth interred the body of leftenant Colonell Walter Aston who died the 6th Aprill 1656.
He was Aged 49 years And Lived in this country 28 yeares Also here lyeth the Body of Walter
Aston the son of Leftenant Collonel Walter Aston who departed this life ye 29th of Januari 1666
Aged 27 Yeares and 7 Monthes.

The work states that Walter [1] Aston, of Longdon, Staffordshire (grandson of Sir Walter Aston of Tixall), had issue:
1. Thomas, living at Kilbary, Ireland;
2. Simon, of London, Grocer, who married Elizabeth, daughter of John Wheeler, of London;
3. Walter, "now in the West Indies;"
4. Robert, of London, grocer. Virginia was often referred to as part of the West Indies in the 17th Century.

Description: 590 acres between the land of Sherly hundred and the land purchased by him the sd.

Ashton, Walter. grantee. 12 August 1646. Charles City County. Description: 1,040 acres part of
the land lying near unto Shirley hundred Southly. upon a creek formerly called by the name of

8/12/1646.
( 1 ) 200 acres granted by patent Dec. 10, 1620 to Nathaniel Cawsey and purchased from John
Causey by bill of sale dated Feby. 7th, 1634; (2) 590 acres granted to said Aston by patent July
26, 1638 and due him for personal adventure of himself and his wife Warbowe, and
transportation of 10 persons into this colony, there being yet due upon the same right 10 acres to
said Aston: (3) 250 acres being residue granted said Aston by patent April 10th, 1643 and by
order of Court Oct. 15th, 1641, and due him for transportation of 5 persons into the colony.
Dated August 12, 1646. Signed "William Berkeley [governor].
The 1638 grant noted that [200 of] this was land Ashton bought from Nathaniel Causey
[2/7/1634].
