      Page 353. George Maxwell's first Account. May 27, 1779.
      The account of Elizabeth Maxwell and James Campbell, two of the Executors of George Maxwell, late of CC, deceased, Charles Grayham, one of the Executors being dead, and Robert Cowden, the other, absent, occasioned by an expectation that the Enemy would invade Annapolis, where he resides.
      Debts include: the Inventory of the deceased's estate on the Western Shore, exhibited this day into Orphan Court, amounting to 1864 £12 shillings 9 pence; an Inventory of sd Estate on the Eastern shore, this day exhibited, amounting to 3445 £15 shillings 8-1/2 pence; 278 £10 shillings 11 pence found in the deceased's house; money received of Robert Cowden, of Alexander Thompson, of Henry Tubman, of Meveral Moran, of Huet Johnson, of Wm Fitzhugh, of Hugh Hopewell, of Barnes and Redgate, of James Bates, of Johnson & Southern, of Benjamin Wood, of Jesper Kenneck, of Alexander Grayham, of Richard Lee Beg, of Revd John McPherson, of James Anderson, of John Cartwright, of Ann Wailes, of Benjamin Wails, of James Campbell, of John Shuttleworth, of Henry Jameson; tobacco received of Peter Griffin, of Edward Boswell; a crop of tobacco made the year the deceased died. The whole amount: 10,419 £0 shillings 3 pence.
      Disbursements went to the Loan office per bond dated Sep 12, 1770 and 2 other bonds dated Jul 20, 1777; Joseph Anderson; Joseph Mudd; Samuel Nicholls, the Superintendant on the Eastern Shore Estate; Andrew Matthas; Craik and Jenifer; John Troup; James Gray; John Gibson and Joseph Bewly for appraising Eastern Shore Estate; Benjamin Ogden, overseer on the Western Shore, for wages; the Sheriff of Talbot County for assessment and County levies; assessment and levies in CC; Walter Hanson, Register, for Letters & recording Will and for recording inventory and for stating, passing, and recording this account; clothing 35 Negroes on the Eastern Shore while finishing the crop, from May 14, 1777, the time the deceased died, until Jan 1; clothing 17 Negroes on the western Shore. Balance to be disposed of according to the deceased's Will: 5784 £9 shillings 1 pence.
