      In his application for a military pension on 11 May 1830, George D. Blackmore stated that he was "aged 70 on February 20 last".

      He enlisted on "Easter Monday" as a soldier in the Maryland Line after running away from his step-father [he was underage]. He "served as a private in Captain Thomas Beall's company, Colonel Rawlings' Rifle Regiment; he was in the battles of Brandywine and Germantown, wintered at Valley Forge, in the spring of 1778, marched under Lieutenant Tannehill and guarded pack horses loaded with munitions of war, from Fort Cumberland to Fort Pitt; he continued at Fort Pitt until he marched down the Ohio River in General McIntosh's Expedition, assisted in building Forts McIntosh and Laurens, and returned to Fort Pitt where he was discharged early in 1779 by Captain Benjamin Harrison, who then commanded the company."

      He returned to Frederick County, Maryland, and volunteered in Captain Sprigg's Maryland company, served as cornet until the summer of 1781, scouting after Tories, with whom they had an engagement. He marched in August, 1781 in Colonel Armand's Corps of Horse to Yorktown, was in the siege there, after which he guarded prisoners, until discharged sometime in December, 1781 by Colonel Thomas."
