      Basil Brooke's Will.
      I, Basil Brooke of CC, planter, am sick and weak in body but of sound mind, memory, and understanding.
      To my brother Michael Brooke - 5 Negroes, Yarrow, Hannah, Clate, Hannah, & Hannah, youngest child [sic], in lieu of the Negroes that I sold, belonging to him, my brother, & I applied the money to my own use.
      To my son, Joseph Brooke - all the profit arising from the lawsuit that now lies in Chancery, between Mr. Sanders & myself, as his full part of my estate.
      To my other 2 children, Mary Brooke & George Brooke - the money on my Chaptico [in St. Mary's County] books & other small debts due me, shall go to defray my just debts; if there is any money left, it shall be equally divided between my other 2 children, Mary Brooke & George Brooke.

      To sons, Basil and Michael Brooke, plantation I now live on, known as "Rogue" being a pt of Calverton Manner. Basil. to have one-half on South side of branch being the middlemost branch of Kings Creek and running up with the said branch to William Tyser's door and other half to son Michael.
      To George Maxwell of Charles Co. merchant and Roger Brooke of Calvert County, Sr., tract In Baltimore County, called "His Lordships Gift," lying on the head of Bush River and on Bynam's Branch, patented for 500 a. but supported to contain 1189 a. to be sold and money applied against debts and remainder to wife and three children, Basil, Michael and Mary Brooke.
      To wife Sarah Brooke, dwelling house and 110 a. adjoining.

      Michael Brooke's Will & Codicil.
      I, Michael Brooke of Calvert County, do make this my Will.
      To my nephew Joseph Brooke - the 2 Negroes called Yarrow and Hannah, left me by my brother, Basil Brooke, them and their increase. Also, I constitute my ad nephew Joseph Brooke, my sole and only heir to every other part of my estate.

      March 19, 1784. This is a codicil to the within Will.
      I, Michael Brooke of Calvert County, do make this my Codicil to this, my within Will. Whereas I, on Mar 18, 1784, executed a deed of gift of 3 Negroes to my niece, Mary Brooke, and it was and is my intention, it should have been to her and her heirs forever, and by some mistake, the words 'heirs forever' were omitted in sd deed of gift. To avoid all disputes that may arise hereafter on sd deed of gift, I now declare it is my will that the abovesd Negroes, and their increase, shall be the property of sd Mary Brooke & her heirs, forever, constituting my nephew, Joseph Brooke, executor, likewise, of this codicil.

      Charles County Land Record Book S#3, 1770-1775; Page 101. Deed or Mortgage. Jan 18, 1771 from Basil Brooke of CC, to Benjamin Machall of Calvert County. Sd Basil Brooke owes sd Benjamin Machall 573 £8 shillings by his bond dated Nov 20, 1770, with legal interest from the day the bond passed by sd Brooke to sd Machall. In order to better secure the payment of the afd sum and to better secure the payment of further sums that Machall may in future advance to Brooke, this deed witnesses that Brooke, for 5 shillings, has given Machall, a parcel of land in CC, being part of his Lordships manor of Calverton, on the south side of the same, next adjoining to the land formerly granted to Walter Pake, bounded by the north side of Indian Cr over against a small island in sd Cr, thence to Kings Cr, containing 500 acres. This is the same parcel of land that was heretofore, about Feb 23, 1767, leased by Edward Loyd, Esq, his Lordship's agent and receiver General, to sd Basil Brooke, for the term of 20 years, renewable forever. If, however, Brooke, by Jan 18, 1775 pays Machall the 573 £8 shillings with legal interest and all further debts to Machall, then this instrument of writing to be void. Jan 18, 1772 from Basil Brooke and Michael Brooke of CC, to James Forbes of CC, for 750 £, all that part of the plantation, tract, or parcel of land whereon sd Basil Brook now dwells, which lies to the northward of a line drawn from the mouth of the first Branch of Kings cr, then up the Cr to its head, then to the foot of the hill where Thomas Hill lived, then back to the first Branch to the head above the house where William Tycer lives, thence to the back line of sd land, including the plantations where William Tycer, John Hines, and Sabrid Card lived, and also the lands on the other side of the Branch within the lines afd, and which sd plantation, tract, or parcel of land sd Basil Brooke and Michael Brooke now hold by virtue of a lease from the Lord Proprietary for 21 years, renewable forever, being part of a tract of land called Calverton Manor, lying in CC. To have and to hold, for 11 years. Basil and Michael will cause this lease to be renewed with the Lord Proprietary. If, within 6 months after the end of the 11 years, Basil and Michael pay Forbes the 750 £with interest, this instrument of writing to be void. Signed - Basil Brooke, Michael Brooke. The mortgage from Basil Brook to Benjamin Marshall, is recorded in this Book pages 101-103, & the assignment is on page 233 of this Record [Boom. Nov 12, 1772. Whereas I, Basil Brooke, owe Mr. James Forbes over and above the afd sum of money in the assignment afd from Benjamin Marshall to him, with interest, the further sum of 305 £by a bond dated last Oct 13, and 100 £by another bond dated today, which sums I agree shall stand as a lien and charge on the afd mortgaged premises, and that sd mortgaged premises and the equity of redemption thereof shall be chargeable with the same.       Dec 4, 1773. I, Basil Brooke, owe James Forbes, over and above the afd sums of money due him on Nov 12, 1772, which appears by my endorsement on this mortgage of that date, a further sum of 300 £, by my bond dated today, which sd several sums of money and the interest thereon, I hereby agree with sd Forbes shall stand as a lien and charged on the within mentioned mortgaged premises, and that sd mortgaged premises and the equity of redemption thereof, shall be chargeable with the same and the interest thereon.
