CHUNN, WILLIAM. About the year 1794 a number of Episcopal
families removed from Maryland to the western part of Rowan
County, North Carolina, among them were the Chunn family. Mr.
William Chunn, the father of Mrs. Susan W. Murphy, was referred
to as "God's gentleman" by Rev. Thomas F. Davis, afterwards
Bishop of South Carolina, "meaning thereby that he was endowed by
nature with all the graces and genuine characteristics of a true,
cultured, Christian gentleman, a very high compliment indeed."
      (Ref: RJR-313).
