William Morton's Will.
1, William Morton, am weak in body yet of a sound & perfect understanding & memory. I want my burial to be decent, without pomp or State, at the discretion of my grandson, Samuel Murphey. I want my wife & my grandson Samuel Murphey, to pay my debts & funeral expenses.
To my wife Elizabeth Morton - the use of Negroes Jack & Clarcey, during her widowhood, and the use of my dwelling house and the use of the plantation called Wittom enlarged, where my dwelling house now stands, during her widowhood. If she marries again, all of the above bequests are to be sold & equally divided among my grandchildren, Samuel Murphey, Walter Murphey, Nathaniel Murphey, Kanellem Murphey. Joseph Murphey, Ann Murphey, Susanna Murphey, & Elizabeth Murphey. Also, if my wife dies a widow, I order that all I have given her shall be sold & equally divided amongst my grandchildren, as already expressed.
To my grandson Samuel Murphey - 4 Negroes (to wit) Terry, George, Acquilla, & Frederick.
To my granddaughter Elizabeth Murphey - a Negro girl called Amey.
To my daughter Ann Murphey - the use of one tract of land called Arabia, & 25 acres of land in a tract of land called Heards Mountain, during her life, & after her death, to be sold & equally divided amongst my grandchildren Walter Murphey, Nathaniel Murphey, Kanellun Murphey, Joseph Murphey, Ann Murphey, & Susanna Murphey. I also give my daughter. Ann the use of 6 Negroes during her natural life (to wit) old Denny, young Denney, Neil, Lucracey, Elizabeth, & Phillip, & after my daughter Ann's death, the Negroes & their increase to be divided among my grandchildren afd.

Probated on Apr 28, 1790 by witnesses Gerard Dyson & George Davis.
On Mar 3, 1790 came Elizabeth Morton, the widow, and made her election to abide by the bequest made to her in the afd will, with regard to the real estate only, and that she claims her dower & third part of the deed's personal estate.
On May 3, 1790, Letters of Administration were granted to Elizabeth Morton, the widow; her securities were Thomas Waters & Acquilla King.
