I have been researching McCollums of Northern KY for several years. I had never been able to place or find out what became of John McC and Jane McFarland until Donell Frazier placed his info on rootsweb in May 2003. Since he lists many statistics for John and Jane, I tend to believe him. He claims Jane was born 5 January 1801 in Campbell County, Kentucky and died 1 July 1870 on Marion County, Indiana. He lists siblings for Jane as: John, Martha, Sarah Elizabeth, Thomas, Benjamin, James, Eliza, William and Robert. He claims Mary Ratcliffe was b. 6 July 1773 in TN and d. 7 April 1855 in Marion County, IN (See: Entries 1381 and 3221 under "Jane McFarland" on rootsweb "Family Trees."
John McCollum, Jr. was married twice - both to Stevens/Stephens ladies. He was son of John McCollum, b Abt. 1762; m Sarah ________ and d. July 1818 in Campbell County, Kentucky. John's Children were: Elijah Johnson McCollum, b 29 April 1824; d. 19 December 1884; m 11 April 1851 Elizabeth C. Thomasson in Kenton County, Kentucky. - Mathew McCollum, b Abt. 1826; m Lucy Mills - Amanda McCollum, b 12 October 1827; m George Simmons - Eliza Jane, b Abt. 1830 - Matilda Ann, b Abt. 1832 - Minerva Emily, b Abt. 1834; m William Reddick - Nancy, b Abt. 1836 ( may have died early; was not in father's will) - Elizabeth, b Abt. 1840; m John Maddox. John McCollum, Jr. d of Cholera. I descend from his sister, Anney, who m Rev. Elam Grizzel.
I suspect, but cannot prove, that Mary Saunderss, is a bad transcription at some time and has been carried down and down and down. If so, it would be only the second one I have found in KY records. Considering the fact that KY had no public schools until 1851, I am sure it was difficult to find qualified clerks for their many counties.
My Parvin Line was transcribed incorrectly in Clift's "Early Marriages in KY," as "Purviance" and cost me and many other descendants many years of agonizing research to no avail.
