In 1685 Lord Baltimore issued a patent in the 12th year of his dominion to William Langworth late of Charles County son and heir of John Langworth land called Widows Mite lying in Charles County now Prince Georges County of 600 acres; Elizabeth Hagan and Mary Routhorn were daus and co-heirs of William Langworth; for 12, 000 pounds of tobacco do sell to Thomas Fletchall; Widows Mite located on the east side of the Anacostin River and the branch or inlet called Tiber; bounded by Richard Piner

To son Joseph and hrs., pt. of "Timberwell," given testator by his grandfather, Wm. Wadsworth, being the plantation where John Dalby now lives; abd personalty. Pt. of land given sd. son called "The Neck," adj. to Richard Stallinges, not to be cleared until sd. son is of age at 18 yrs.
To Richard Neale (who m. Martha, dau. of John Bowling) and hrs., pt. of "Timberwell," which afsd. Wm. Wadsworth bequeathed to sd. John Bowling, there being a consid. received for same.
To unborn child if a son, residue of real estate and personalty at age of 18; shd. sd. child be a dau., sd. lands to son Joseph and hrs.
To wife Elizabeth, extx., residue of personal estate. Shd. wife die, son Joseph to care of mother-in-law Frances Wilson; after her decease, bro.-in-law John Veatch, guardian to sd. son, who is to have 3 years' schooling.

Jan 29, 1749 from Joseph Ruthorn of CC, planter, and Mary, his wife, to William Bowling of CC, carpenter, for divers good causes, a certain tract of land in CC, now in the possession of sd Joseph Ruthorn and Mary, his wife, called Charlie, during the natural life of sd Joseph Ruthorn and Mary, his wife, and the profits of 9 Negroes: Sarah, Nell, Joe, Dick, Ben, Poll, Suck, Priss, and Raphel, and also the use of an oval table and a safe, and 4 Negroes: Bartley, Pugg, Basil, and Patt, and the rest of his household' stuff, his corn, wheat, meat, beans, cattle, hogs, horses, sheep, and dunghell fowls. To have and to hold, the above mentioned land and premises to sd Bowling, during the natural life of Joseph Ruthorn and Mary, his wife, and the use & profits of the 9 Negroes first above mentioned, the oval table and safe to sd Bowling during the natural life of sd Joseph Ruthorn, and the possession of the 4 last mentioned Negroes, the rest of his household stuff, corn, meat, beans, stock, and fowls to sd Bowling forever. Sd Wm Bowling hereby obliges himself, in the penal sum of 30,000 lbs tobacco, to find & provide for sd Joseph Ruthorn and Mary, his wife, during their natural lives, a warm room with a good fireplace and closet, furnished in a handsome manner, at the discretion and choice of sd Joseph Ruthorn & Mary, his wife, out of the afd household furniture. Bowling is to find them a Negro boy or girl to attend them under old age, sickness, or other bodily infirmities. Bowling is to provide them riding horses when they require the same, and to provide them drink, washing, and lodging suitable to their characters and condition, and to provide for the 9 Negroes during the life of Joseph Routhon, and to pay Joseph Routhorn yearly 2000 lbs tobacco, and after the death of sd Joseph, to pay Mary Routhorn yearly 1000 lbs tobacco. Joseph Routhorn will keep in his possession his chest and its contents. If any old or longstanding debts should come against sd Joseph Routhorn,

We Joseph Routhorn and William Bowling of Charles County, Maryland, carpenters, for the consideration expressed and for divers other good causes and considerations them thereunto moving have sold to Thomas Bowling of PGCo, planter, all the right title interest and clam that we or either of us may have to five Negroes, Sarah, Nell, Ben, Poll and Priss now in the possession of William Bowling and made over to him by Joseph Routhorn for and during the natural life of Joseph Routhorn by deed bearing date January 17, 1749. And we the said Jospeh Routhorn and William Bowling do in like manner and for the same consideration make over sell and confirm to the said Thomas Bowling one other Negro girl called Sall, daughter of Nell. In consideration whereof Thomas Bowling doth bind and oblidge himself in the penal sum of 30,000 of tobacco to find and provide for the said Joseph Routhorn and Mary Routhorn his wife during their natural lives a warm room with a good fire place and closet and to keep the same furnished in a neat and handsome manner to find them a negro boy or girl to be constantly at their command, sufficient riding horses as required and meat, drink, washing and lodging sufficient and suitable to their character. Also the payment of 2000 pounds of crop tobacco annually to Joseph Routhorn during their lives and after his death 1000 pounds to Mary Routhorn annually.
