- He married Margaret Mackall, one of the eight beautiful daughters of General James John Mackall of Godsgrace. His daughter Margaret Mackall Smith married Captain Zachary Taylor, who later became President of the United States. Her brother Walter Smith who died unmarried about 1828, was the last of the Smiths of St. Leonard's.
