1721-1752 King George County, Virginia Will Book A-1; [George Harrison Sanford King];
In the Name of God Amen. This twentieth day of October One thousand Seven hundred and Fifty, I, John Berkley of the County of King George being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God therefore but calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die do constitute make and ordain this my Last Will & Testament, that is to say - [ # ]
Imprimis: I give and bequeath unto my son John Berkley all my wearing cloaths after my decease.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my son William Berkley one Negro man named John together with one feather bed, bedstead and furniture belonging thereto commonly called and known by the name of tIe new bed as also one cow and calf and one Great Bible to be immediately possessed and enjoyed by him after my decease.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my grandson John Berkley, the son of James Berkley, one shilling Sterling.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Elizabeth Sturmon (sic),one shilling Sterling.
Item: My will and desire is that my wife Elizabeth may have the use of my Negro woman named Sue and also the one half of the remainder part of my estate during her natural life and all my lands and tenements and after her decease to be devised and disposed of in the following manner and form.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Henry Berkley one Negro woman named Sue and her future increase, but if she brings any children after my decease before he is possessed with her, I desire that he may satisfie my wife for the trouble that she takes in raising the said children and if my son Henry Berkley dies without an heir lawfully begotten of his body, then my will and desire is that the said Negro woman and and her future increase return to my son William Berkley to be freely possessed and enjoyed by him and his heirs forever.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my son William Berkley all my lands and tenements to be freely possessed and enjoyed by him forever.
Item: My will and desire is that the remainder part of my estate after the payment of my debts and legacy's may be equally divided among all my six children.
Item: I appoint ordain and constitute my beloved wife Elizabeth and my son William my Executrix and Executor of this my Last Will and Testament. I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannull all and every other former will legacy or bequest by me before this time willed or bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament.

The Last Will and Testament of John Berkley, Deceased, was presented into Court by Elizabeth and William Berkley his Executors who made oath thereto and the same was proved by the oaths of the
Witnesses thereto and admitted to record.

IN THE NAME OF GOD. Amen. I JOHN MOTHERSHEAD being sick and weak but of perfect sences and memory praised be Almighty God for it, du make this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following, hearby revoaking all other Wills and Testamts. heretofore made by me.
Imprimis. I committ my Sole into the hands of Almighty God and my Body to the Earth to be buried by my Executors hereafter named.
Ihem. I give unto my Dafter, MARY MOTHERSHEAD, twenty five pounds to be paid to hur when she comes of age,
Item. I leave to my loveing Wife, the Plantation whareon I now live during hur life and the remainer of my Estate. Further my desier is that Brother, CHARLES MOTHERSHEAD, have the liberty of living there and the working of his slave till he arives to the age of Twenty one. Lastle, I nominate & apoint my loving Wife & my loving Brother, JOHN QUISSENBURY, Executors of this my Last Will & Testamt. As Witness my hand & seal this 29th day of Novemr: 1748

At a Court held for the said County the 27th day of March 1750 This Last Will and Testamt. of JOHN MOTHERSHEAD, deced., being presented into Court by SARAH, his Relict & Executrix therein named, who made Oath thereto as the Law directs, & being also duely proved by the Oaths of the witnesses thereto, is admitted to Record; And upon mocon of the said Executrix & her performing what is usual in such cases, Certificate is granted her for obtaining a Probate thereof in due form Test GEORGE LEE, C. C. W.
