NEWMAN, JOHN, of the County of Rappa. in Virginia.
To eldest son Alexander Newman 600 acres of land that lie at Morattico Indian Towne it being the halfe of 1200 acres of land taken Up between Paule Woodbridge and myself only my sonne Alexander shall give & grant unto his brother John what Timber he shall have occasion to use upon the Plantation which his Father have given him as long as they two shall live. To son John Newman the Plantation where I now live. To son Samuell Newman 20,000 pounds of Tob. and a breeding mare. To sons Alexander & John all the rest of my Estate moveables & unmoveables. Son Alexander shall take possession of my whole Estate after my decease till my other sons Samuel and John comes to age, provided these friends below mentioned doth see that he doth not Embezill nor waste the Estate. Further my desire is that my Friends should look into the Estate Every Yeare & if they should see that ye Estate should be wronged my desire is they should take it into their Custody till my Children come of age & if in case my son Alexander should Embezill any thing of ye Estate whilst he may have it in his custody then I doe Order he shall pay to his brother Samuell 20,000 pounds of Tob. & in case he should increase the Estate then he shall pay to his brother Samuell five Thousand the first yeare he comes to age & 5000 the second year. Likewise I order that my sonne John shall pay to his brother Samuell 5000 the first yeare that he comes to age and 5000 the second yeare. Further I would desire Capt Leroy Griffin Mr Paule Woodbridge Mr Thomas Glascock as this my Will doth Specifie Likewise I would desire them to Act according to it further I would desire my friend Paule Woodbridge once a Week Come & give my sonne advice & for the consideration thereof I give him 500 pounds Tob. pr Yeare.

TO ALL TO WHOM this prsent writing shall come ALEXANDR: NEWMAN of the Parish of FARNHAM sendeth Greeting. Whereas JOHN NEWMAN deced, Father of the said ALEXANDER in and by his last Will and Testamt: gave and bequeathed unto SAMUELL, his Sonne, Twenty thousand pounds of tobacco to be paid as therein is mentioned, and a Breeding Mare, and unto the said ALEXR. and JOHN NEWMAN, one other of his Sonnes, all the rest of his Estate unmoovables and moovables, And that the said ALEXANDR: should take the said Estate into his possession until his said Brothers, SAMUELL and JOHN, should come to age, under a provisoe never the less that the said ALEXANDR: should not vast the same; NOW KNOW YEE that the said ALEXANDR: NEWMAN for the better securing of the Estate part and portion of the said SAMUELL and JOHN given to them as aforesaid and in pursuance of an Order of the County Court of Rappae; to that purpose, as alsoe in consideration of all and Singular the Tobacco goods and other things mentioned in the First Scedule hereunto annexed which are in the possession and to the proper use of the said ALEXANDR: hath granted assigned released and delivered and by these presents doth fully and absolutely grant assigne release and deliver unto the said JOHN NEWMAN, the Sonne, and PAULE WOODBRIDGE his Guardian, all and Singular the Servants, goods household Stuff, Cattle, Sheep, Horses, Mares and other things mentioned and expressed in the second Scedule Inventory hereunto annexed and all the Right title and Interest of the said ALEXANDR: of in and to the same and every part thereof TO HAVE & TO HOLD the said Servants, goods, household Stuff, catle, sheep, horses, Mares and other things menconed in the second Scedule unto the said JOHN NEWMAN the Sonne & PAUL WOODBRIDGE his Guardian to the only proper use and behoofe of the said JOHN and SAMUELL NEWMAN the Sonns of the said JOHN NEW- MAN deced from hence forth for Ever, According to the true meaning of the said Will. In Witness whereof the said ALEXANDR: NEWMAN hath hereunto sett his hand and Seale the first day of May Anno Dom: 1679

KNOW ALL MEN by these pr:sents that I MARY NICHOLLS, Wife of ZACHARIAS NICHOLLS do substitute & ordaine my Friend., EDWARD JONES, to be my true & lawfull Attorney for me & in my name to acknowledge in Court my right & title in the sale of a MILL sold by my Husband to Mr. JOHN NEWTON and what my said Attorney shall do in that case shall stand in as full force & power as myself were personally pr:sent. Given under my hand this 29th day of Novembr. 1692
