      13 October 1722. Deed. John Garner of Cople Parish to William Tynan (spelled Teyney on the margin, and Tayney in the index) of the same place. For 2500 lbs of tobacco. Refers to a 20-year lease for this property from Garner to Teyman dated 24 August 1721. This deed is a bargain and sale for 167 acres, one rod and 33 perches, "being formerly granted unto the said John Garner by the Proprietors of the Northern Neck it is also a part of 240 acres which the said Teynan purchased of the said Garner for the term and by the Indenture for the term and by the Indenture of bargain and sale aforeseaid." Metes and bounds: beginning at [A] a locust post in the line of the land now in possession of Thomas Beale and in the westernmost side of the road that leads from the said Teynans to Garners mill and extending thence north 64 degrees west 19 poles to [B] a stake near a persimmon tree in the old field from thence south 46 degrees west 47 poles to [C] a marked oak thence south 52 degrees west 58 poles to [D] an oak sapling standing in a long bottom from thence south 84 degrees west still continuing the line of Beal 5 poles to [E] a small hickory corner tree to the said Beal & Stephen Self, Jr. from thence north 62 degrees west binding on the land of the said Stephen Self and John Williams 151 poles to [F] the land of Edward Turner from thence north 45 degrees east along and by the land of the said [Edward] Turner and the land of Henry Garner 223 poles to [G] the land formerly Martin Cole's near, the said Garner but in possession of the said Teyman by force and virtue of the aforesaid lease from thence south 25 degrees east 192 poles to [A] the beginning.       9 August 1721. 20 year lease. John Garner of Cople Parish to William Tyman of the same place. For 10,000 lbs. of tobacco. 240 acres "now in the occupation of the said William Tyman," beginning at [A] a marked white oak standing on the easternmost side of the road that leads from the said Plantation to the said Garner's Mill and extending from thence SW to [B] where a Locust Post stood a corner to the land that was formerly Martin Cole's being part of this menconed grant, and from the said Locust Post along the land of Thos. Beal and the land of Stephen Self, Jun' and the land of John Williams and along the land of Edward Turner and Henry Garner to the line of the land that was formerly Martin Cole's as aforesaid which land doth belong to the said John Garner and is along the said Cole's line to [C) Rotank Swamp [now Bonum's Creek] and from thence across the said land as shall include the aforesaid sum of [240] acres and thence west to [A] the place where it first began." Rent to commence from "the date hereof" until "the fifteenth December next" and afterwards until 20 years has ended. Tyman also to pay the "chief Lord of the fees such rents as yearly shall become due and of right accustomed to be paid during the whole term" (quit rents.) Signed by signature. Witnessed by William Wright, James Thomas, and James Thomas, Jr. Acknowledged in court on 20 August 1721, and Lettice Garner wife of John Garner relinquished her right of dower.       THIS INDENTURE made the Tenth day of March one thousand seven hundred and Twenty nine/30, Between JOHN GARNER of Parrish of Hannover and County of KING GEORGE, Planter, of one part and JOSHUA SINGLETON of Parrish of Northfarnham and County of Richmond, Planter, of other part; Witnesseth that JOHN GARNER in consideracon of Five shillings of lawful' money of Great Brittain to him in hand paid by JOSHUA SINGLETON, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, hath and do by these p:sents bargain and sell unto JOSHUA SINGLETON his heirs a p:cell of Land contanen Sixty acres which land was left to JEEN [Jane] BENGER, the Daughter of JOHN BENGER given to her by her Grandfather [Richard Benger]. the corner begines at a old marked Chesnut and to be laid of given apon the line of said JOSHUA SINGLETON, the p:cell of land containing Sixty acres scituate in Parrish of Northfarnham and County of Richmond now in the tenure and occupation of JOSHUA SINGLETON lying near the Branches of TOTOSKEY CREEK and on the Northwest side thereof and bounded as above with all houses orchards and comodities and the rents issues and profits thereof; To have and to hold the p:cell of land unto JOSHUA SINGLETON his heirs during the term of one whole year paying the rent of one Ear of Indian Corn on the Feast day of our Lord next ensueing if lawfully demanded, to the intent that by vertue of these p:sents and of the Statute for transferring uses into possession JOSHUA SINGLETON may be in the actual possession of the p:mises and be therefore enabled to accept a grant of the inheritance thereof to him and his heirs; In Witness whereof the parties first above named hath interchangeably sett their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first above written

I EDMUND JEFFRES of the Parish of Coply and County of Westmorland being sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God for it, calling to mind the sartainty of death & knowing that all men must die do make constitute and ordain this my Last Will and Testment, revoking and disalowing all others by me maid and first I recommend my Sole to Almighty God that gave it to me hoping to receive mercy by the merits of my blessed Saviour Jesus Christ and my body to the Earth to be decently buried according to the discretion of my Executriks as for what worly goods it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow on me, I dispose of them in manner and form following;

I give and bequith unto my two Sonns GEORGE JEFFRES and EDMUN JEFFRES all the Houshold goods and chattels that they in there possession and my waxing apparell and all the rest of my Estate I give to be equily devided between my Wife and Children that I have had by my aforesaid Wife, namely ELIZABETH, ANN, MARY, CATHERN, ELENDER, ALICE, JEREMIAH, ROBERT.       Garner to Rust Indenture
      This indenture made the 27th day of August 1757 between John Gardner [Garner] of the parish of Cople in County of Westmoreland of the one part and Samuel Rust of the same Parish in County of the other part. Witnesseth that John Gardner in consideration of 15 pounds current money paid by Samuel Rust has sold to the said Rust all those lands containing by estimation [missing] being part of a tract of land granted by patent to William Walker in 1662 lying in the parish of Cople in County aforesaid and bounded by the lands of Samuel Rust and Bradley Garner South East 175 poles to a corner near Capt. Rust’s mill and from thence up the side of the mill pond 130 poles to a branch from thence up the said branch and valley that heads in William Coward’s pasture and from the head of the valley northerly to the beginning. In witness whereof the party first to these presents have hereunto set his hand and seal this day and year first above written.

      Gardner [Garner] to Morse Indenture
      This indenture made the fifth day of March 1763 between Thomas Gardner of the parish of Cople in County of Westmoreland of the one part and Obediah Morse of the same Parish in County of the other part. Witnesseth that Thomas Gardner in consideration of 30 pounds current money has sold to Obediah Morse a tract of land containing by estimation 70 acres that fell to him being heir of his brother John Gardner, deceased, being part of a tract of land granted by patent to William Walker 1662, lying in the parish of Cople in County aforesaid and bounded by the lands of Samuel Rust and Thomas Beale and the branch and mill pond. In witness whereof the parties first to these presents have hereunto set his hand and seal this day and year first above written.
