      IN THE NAME of GOD, Amen. I GEORGE BROWN of Cople Parish in Westmoreland County in Virginia, Planter, being sick & weak but of perfect mind & memory thanks be to Almighty God and calling to mind the uncertainty of this transitory life, and (scratched on the film) death when it shall please God to call us, do make ordain constitute & appoint this my Last Will & Testament in manner & form following, vizt.. May the eighteenth 1724. Imprimis. I will tht my debts & funeral charges be first paid.
      hem I give unto my Nephew. JOHN BROWN, Son of my Brother, WILLIAM BROWN. deced., one hundred acres of land lying along the Main Road being part of a divident of two hundred acres of land, the which land now THOMAS SANDY liveth & formerly my sd. Nephews Father, WM. BROWN, lived & there died, which said land I give to him my sd. Nephew, JOHN BROWN, and his heires lawfully begotten of his body for ever: But if my said Nephew, JNO: BROWN, should die without issue as aforesd., that then the sd. land fall to his Cozin, THOMAS BROWN, Son of my Brother, THOMAS BROWN. and his heires for ever.
      Item I give and bequeath the other part of the divident of land unto GEORGE DURING, Son of THOMAS DURING and to his heirs for ever.
      Item I give and bequeath unto JOHN BUCKLEY all the land I bought of WM. PAINE being the land & plantacon he now lives upon and to his heires for ever.
      Item I give & bequeath unto JOHN FRYER a valley of Land joyning to his present Corn Field to a Chestnutt tree standing by a Path side, commonly known by the place where a Boar killed a Sow and to his heires for ever:
      Item. I give and bequeath unto GEORGE HARDAGE, Son of WM; HARDAGE, & ELIZA: his Wife, being my Sister, all that Land lying nigh Westmoreland Court House computed to be two hundred & eighty acres of land and to his heires for ever:
      Item I give & bequeath unto PRISCILLA FRYER. Daughter of WM: FRYER. after the decease of my loving Wife, ROSE. my Mill with all the priviledges appurtenances & prolitts thereunto belonging or shall after my sd. Wifes decease at any time belong & to her heires for ever, as also two acres of land on that side of the Mill standeth of as aforesaid
      Item. I do order & require that my two Nephews, JOHN & THOMAS BROWN, be both hopper free if they require the same at the said Mill.
      Item. I give & bequeath unto WM. FRYER all that land he now lives upon down to the Boiling Spring & to his heires for ever.
      Item. I give & bequeath unto the said WM: FRYER my holsters, pistols and sword & sadle
      Item. I give & bequeath unto PRISCILLA FRYER, Daughter of WM. FRYER, all the land from the Boiling Spring to SMITH his line and to her heirs for ever;
      Item. I give & bequeath unto my Nephew, JNO. BROWN, all the land between HAZLERIGG. his land. and the line bequeathed to him in this Will before and to his lawfully begotten of his body for ever, and for want of such issue to the aforesaid THOMAS BROWN & his heires for ever.
      Item I give & bequeath unto DANIEL JACKSON the Plantacon I now live on & all the land thereunto belonging not before bequeathed & to his heires for ever;
      I give & bequeath unto my Nephew, THOMAS BROWN, a Negro boy named Adam and to his heires lawfully begotten of his body, but for want of such heires to revert to WM. FRYER & his heires for ever:
      Item, I give & bequeath unto my Nephew, JOHN BROWN, two Negroes, one called Winny & one Jacob & to his heires lawfully begotten and for want of such issue to revert, Winny to WM: FRYER. & Jacob to DANIEL JACKSON, & their heires for ever;
      Item. I give & bequeath after my Wifes decease to my said Nephew, JOHN BROWN, a feather bed. a rug & a pair of blanketts,
      Item I give to my Nephew THOMAS BROWN, a feather bed, rug & a pr. blankets & a yearling horse colt & a Gun
      Item, After the decease of my loving Wife, ROSE BROWN, all the rest residue & remainder of my Estate not yet bequeathed, I give and bequeath unto WILLIAM FRYER, Son of JOHN FRYER. FRANCES and ROSE, Daughters of WM. FRYER, GEORGE & ELIZABETH Children of DANIEL JACKSON & KATHERINE, also Daughter of the aforesaid JOHN FRYER,
      to be equally divided amongst them.
      Item. I will that JOHN BUCKLEY out of the Land called BROAD NECK have liberty to get Timber as much as will build him a twenty foot House and likewise to get Boards to cover a sixteen foot House
      Lastly, I nominate my two good friends THOMAS ROBINSON & WM: FRYER my Executors of this my Last Will & Testament revokeing & makeing void & null all other Will or Wills, Testaments or Testaments formerly made by me either in work or writeing and this to be taken only as my Will

      The Last Will and Testament of GEORGE BROWN, deced,, was presented into Court by THOMAS ROBINSON & WM; FRYER, his Exrs., who made Oaththereto, and being proved by the Oaths of WM.       THIS INDENTURE made September the 23rd and in the Seventeenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the grace of God of Great Brittain France and Ireland, King, Defender of the faith &c., And in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty three; Between THOMAS BROWN and ELIZABETH his Wife of Parish of Cople in County of Westmorland of one part and COLEMAN READ of aforesaid Parish and County of other part; Witnesseth that THOMAS BROWN and ELIZABETH his Wife in consideration of the quantity and sum of Fifty pounds current money to him in hand paid by by COLEMAN READ, the receipt whereof THOMAS BROWN and ELIZABETH his Wife doth hereby acknowledge, hath and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto COLEMAN READ his heirs all that Plantation and parcel of land containing by estimation One hundred and Thirty acres be the same more or less together with a right of a parcel of land held by a Pattent granted WILLIAM OVERETT now in the possession of said COLEMAN REID with the priviledges and appurtenances a half an acre of land only excepted for the use of a burying place and for no other use, the Hundred and thirty acres of land lying in the Parish of Cople in County of Westmorland and lying on the South West side of a Creek and is bounded on the North West and North East by the land of said COLEMAN READ and on the South by the River, which hundred and thirty acres is part of a greater tract formerly granted to THOMAS HAWKINS and hath been by sundry conveyances legally conveyed down and became the right of JOHN WALKER, who died siezed with the said land and leaving no heir behind him, and not disposing of the land by Will, it was then escheated for THOMAS BROWN and his Brother, GEORGE BROWN, the said GEORGE BROWN dying also, and THOMAS BROWN being his heir is now lawfully vested with the hundred and thirty acres of land, Together with all houses orchards priviledges and appurtenances to the Plantation and parcel of land belonging; To have and to hold the hundred and thirty acres of land with appurtenances unto COLEMAN REID his heirs; And THOMAS BROWN and ELIZABETH his Wife the land and premises hereby granted unto COLEMAN REID his heirs against all persons shall warrant and forever defend by these presents (the Rents from henceforth to become due and payable to the Chief Lord or Lords of the fee to the premises only excepted and foreprized); In Witness whereof the partys first aforementioned to these present Indentures have interchangeably set their hand & fixt their seal the day and year first above written

      Item I give to my daughter Ann Nash one cow and calf
      Item I give to my son John Nash one feather bed and furniture
      Item I give to my son Thomas Brown one Shilling
      Item I give to my son Nathaniel Nash one Shilling,

      At a court held for Westmoreland County the 30th day of March 1762 this will was proved according to law by the oaths of Gerard Hutt, Junior and Osmond Crabb the witnesses thereto and is ordered to be recorded; and on the motion of Jeremiah Nash the executors named in the said will who made oath according to law and together with George Duncan and Osmond Crabb his securities entered into and acknowledged bond with condition as the law directs, certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
