1729-1748 Stafford County, Virginia Will Book M; [Antient Press]; Page 480-481 In Name of God Amen This ninth day of September in the year of our Lord 1743 I JOHN WHEELER of Parish of Overwharton in County of Stafford being sick in body host. of perfect sense - do make this my Last Will & Testament. Imprimis I give my Soul into hands of God .. and my body to the earth. As to what worldly Estate .. I give as follows.
Item My will is that my Loving Wife DIANA WHEELER do have the Plantation whereon I now live with the appurtenances during her natural life with the use and occupation of five Negroes (named) also during her natural life.
Item I give unto GEORGE JAMES the Younger all that my tract of land and plantation whereon I now live containing about 300 acres after my wife's decease to him the said George James the Younger and the heirs of his body Lawfully begotten for ever and for Default of such issue to JOHN JAMES his Brother and Heirs .. and for default of such heirs to the next heir at Law to GEORGE JAMES the elder and MARY his wife of their Bodys lawfully begotten for ever.
Item I give unto JOHN JAMES son of George and Mary his wife all my lands in the County of Prince William to him and heirs.
Item I give unto George James & Mary his wife three Negroes to say Will Strike and Pegg the meaning of this bequest and my desire is that the said Negros Pegg be and remain in the Estate of my said Wife Diana and after her decease I give the said Negroe Pegg and her increase to my Daughter Mary James aforsaid during her naturall life after whose death I give the said Negroe and her increase to ESTHER JAMES Daughter of said George and Mary to her and her heirs.
Item it is my will that my Loving wife Diana Wheeler have the full possession and enjoyment of all my personal Estate during her naturall life.
Item I. give unto HENRY FIELD the Elder the sum of twenty pounds current money of Virginia to be paid by my Executrixe hereafter named within two years after my Decease or in any shorter space as she in her descretion shall think fit.
Item it is my will that George James and Mary his wife enjoy my dwelling Plantation and land thereunto belonging during their natural lives after my wife's decease and after their decease then to George James the Younger in manner as before expressed.
Item I give unto Esther James Daughter of George and Mary James a Negro boy called Charles and a negro woman nailed Pegg and her increase which said Negroe woman to be delivered her after the decease of her mother as before Express together with two feather beds and furniture, two iron putts, two cows and calves, two pewter dishes and six pewter plates, my large brass kettle and one young mare to her the said Esther and her heirs.
Item I give unto GEORGE JAMES the Younger a negro girl named Hannah and her increase together with two feather beds and furniture, the new great Pot and a small one, three cows & calves, two pewter dishes and six pewter plates to him and heirs. Item it is my will that my two negroes namely Tom and Dick after the decease of my wife DIANA WHEELER be sold at Publick auction to the highest bidder and the money arising by such sale to be equally divided between George James the younger and his Sister Esther James ,. and heirs,
Item as to the residue of my Personal Estate not herein devised of any kind or nature an ever after the decease of my Loving Wife Diana I give the same to GEORGE JAMES and MARY his wife and heirs.
Item I desire my Estate may not be brought to an appraisal but that an inventory thereof be taken by my Executrix and by her returned according to Law.
Lastly l hereby appoint my Loving wife Diana Wheeler my whole and sole Executrix of this my Last will & testament hereby revoking all other wills.

Proven in Court by James Campbell, George James and Joseph Steward. Henry Field, Jr., refused to act as executor and the Court appointed Joseph James.
