Lamkin to Wife & Children Deed of Gift
I Matthew Lamkin of the county of Washington and parish of Cople and for the natural love and affection which I bear to my wife and four sons and for many other causes, me especially moving doe make the following gifts;
To my wife wife Frances Lamkin, 170 acres of land, 100 acres whereof my father purchased of George Cox and Ellen Cox his wife, the other 70 acres which fell to me by my mother Ann Lamkin, during her life and after her death I give the 170 acres to my three sons, George Lamkin, Charles Lamkin, and Matthew Lamkin in equal proportions.
I also give to my wife Frances Lamkin, Negro woman Frank during her life and after her death to my son Matthew Lamkin with her future increase.
I give to my son Benedict Lamkin, Negroes; Old Ealse, Ned and Hannah with her increase.
I give to my son George Lamkin, Negroes, Sam and Jude and her increase.
I give to my son Charles Lamkin, three Negroes; Cooper, Will and young Ealse and her increase
I give to my son Matthew Lamkin, Negro boy Ben and Negro girl Sue with her increase.
I give to my loving wife Frances Lamkin for the causes aforesaid, my household furniture with my stock of every kind to her own use but if either of my sons which I have by my now present wife should die before they arrive to the age prescribed by law to make any legal devise, that then the surviving children which I have with my present wife Frances Lamkin to have an equal division of such estate as aforesaid given. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 28th September 1772.
