      Subject: Richard Thompson

"The Richard Thompson/Tomson who married Ursula Bysshe on Kent Isle in 1641 appears to have been married previsouly since there is a record of his iimmigration with wife and child. The wife appears to have died but the child may have been the Richard Thompson who appears in Northumberland where his step-mother Ursula Bysshe Thompson married secondly, John Mottrom and 3rd George Colclough. Richard, the son of Ursula and Richard, died as a young lad and his property was inherited by his sisters, Elizabeth and Sarah. In a depostition in Northumberland, the Richard, who may have been the first child, gave his birth date of 1633, so he cannot be the son of Richard and Ursula. I am a descendant of Elizabeth Thompson Presly and wrote a book on these people. You can see some of Ursujla Bysshe's English ancestry on The Weald, History Genealogy and Topography of Kent, Surrey and Sussex."

"...His immigration 1636 record [Maryland , Liber 1, Folio 82-84] states he came with wife and child. There are also were references that the Indians killed his wife.. Since his trading post was under the direction of Edward Thompson during his absence in England from 1634 until he returned in 1636, I would surmise that Edward was his brother, Edward also migrated to Northumberland. The wife must have been pregnant when he left England in 1631 if this Richard ws his son. The Richard who chose Thomas Willoughby as his guardian was the son of Richard and Ursula Bysshe Thompson, and Thomas Willoughby had married his older sister, Sarah, by 1662. Ursula Bysshe Thompson Mottrom Colclough, his mother, died in 1661. Thomas Willoughby's sister, Elizabeth married first Simon Oversee, then after Ursula's death , Elizabeth married her widower, George Colclough, who lived just a short time. She then married Isaac Allerton. Her only offspring were by Allerton."
