Claims of Rebecca Backhouse, report 10 Jan. 1800: [Page 117-121]
Estate of Triplett & Thornton. £577,17.2-1/2 and 212.15.1 (paid into the loan office). The firm was composed of William Triplett and George Thornt on who did business in Fredericksburg before the war. George Thornton died during the war and left a valuable real and personal estate. His widow since the peace married Gen. Thomas Posey of Spotsylvania, on whom devolved the settlement of the affairs of the estate until George W. Thornton, son of the debtor, arrived at full age, which has been but lately.
William Triplett died shortly after the peace and left also a good estate. His acting executor was his brother Daniel Triplett who for some years past resided in Madison County but has lately removed to Stafford County. On the dissolution of the partnership of Triplett & Thornton all the debts due from the company were by contract between the parties to be paid by Wm. Triplett. Since the death of Wm. Triplett, his executor, before British debts were recoverable, delivered to William Glassell of Fredericksburg {who was for many years agent of the creditor) a number of bonds which he considered in full satisfaction of the debt. Mr. Glassell, however, says he only took the bonds for collection. He admits he collected a sum equal to £212.15.1.
