SAMUELL MATHEWS Esqr. do with the consent of the Councell of State grant unto RALEIGH TRAVERS three hundred acres of land situate on the South side of RAPPA. RIVER about two miles Southerly into the woods from the Plantation of Mr. JAMES BAGNALL begining at a marked Pokickery standing neer a branch which issueth into the great Swamp & runing from thence to a small marked Oak standing in the head of a branch thence S. S. E unto a marked Oak standing neer a branch thence N by Wt. 1/2 a point N. to the first menconed tree the said Land being due unto the said RALEIGH TRAVERS by a Pattent granted unto him dated the 9th of March 1653 and Renewed by order from the Governour and Councell hearing date with these presents to have and to hold provided &c Given under our hands this 15th October 1657

      KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I WILLIAM MATHEWS of the County of Rappa of the Pish of Farnham in Virginia Planter doe for a valuable consideration in hand paid by MICHAEL VALANDAGAM of ye County of NORTHUMBERLAND Planter the receipt whereof I hereby acknowledge and therefore doe give sell and confirm unto the said VALANDAGAM three hundred and fifty acres of land beginning at a marked corner tree of Mr WILLIAM TRAVERS which is the first Corner tree of the abovesaid MATHEW and further I the said WILLIAM MATHEWS doe alienate and make over three hundred and fifty acres of land from me my heirs and assigns forever with General Warranty of the same ye said land lying in the County of Rappa on the Mouth of RAPPA RIVER at the head of the maine Pucosin running NNE from a corner tree of Mr. WILLIAM TRAVERS wch is by a swamp side and further I the said WILLIAM MATHEWS doe in faith confirm and forever make over from me my heirs or assigns to MICHAEL VALANDAGAM his heirs and assigns with a warranty of the same the said three hundred and fifty acres of land extending from the aforesaid corner tree Southerly by the maine Branch to the RIDGE PATH and furthermore I do confirme with all and singular the buildings and commodities I do covenant and promise to and with the said MICHAEL VALANDEGAM his heirs and assigns firmly by these presents that he his heirs and assigns shall at all times hereafter quietly and peaceably have and enjoye the same land by these presents from me or any other persons that may now or hereafter lay any clayme to ye said Land without any disburbance or incumbrance from any persons whatsoever hereafter to the true intent and meaning hereof I WILLIAM MATHEWS have set my hand and seal this Eleventh day of February 1673/4

      KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I THOMAS FRESHWATER of the County of Rappa and Parrish of Farnham doe bargaine sell and make over unto Collo. WILLIAM TRAVERS of the same County & Parrish Gent or unto his heirs or assigns all & singular that plantation and State of land whereon I now live conteyning by estimacon Two hundred acres together with all Edifices buildings and other the appurtenances thereunto belon gin of what Nature or quality soever alsoe one young Iron gray mare with a marr in her forehead aged about two years and lately purchased by me of one THOMAS COLLY and foure cowes and calves the one a black Cow with a white Tayle and belly called by the name of Mally one pide Cowe red and white called by the name of Mad Brains one red Cowe called by the name of Younge Pidey and one Cow of a darkish brown called by the name of Stately twu heifers aged about two years the one a pide heifer with a white face the other of a lightish browne and two starrs aged about six years all of them marked with a swallow forke and underkeele on the left eare and a crop on the right eare to have and to hold all and every the premises by these presents granted to him the said Collo. WILLIAM TRAVERS his heirs or assigns forever wth Warranty of every pte and parcel! thereof from any persons whatsoever that either now may or hereafter shall lay any manner of clayme to them or any of them as before menconed and do oblige myself my heirs &c. this my lawful! act and deede at the next Court held for the abovesaid County and in confirmacon thereof I have hereunto set my hand & seale this 4th day of April 1676
      The Condition of this present Deed of Writing is such that if the above obliged THOMAS FRESHWATER shall well and truly pay unto the above named Collo. WILLIAM TRAVERSE his heirs or assigns the newt quantity of foure thousand eight hundred sixty and three pounds of good sound merchantable tobacco and Casque convenient in the abovesaid County and Parrish at or upon the last of December next ensuing this date that then this present obligation to be void and of none effect or else it shall & may be lawful! for the above said Collo. Allerton who formerly was With Mr, Thomas Mathew appoynted by this Court to inspect and make report of the whole matter, not appearing at this Court, the Court order that all matters dependinge :doe stand as 'they doe till' the next Court and then without further delay all matters be determined.

      There hath bin geverall suits in this Court betweene Rebecca Travers late wife of Wm. Travers as administratrix of the estate of Wm., and Thomas Kirton, as also at the Generall Court between Tho: Kirton and Jno. Rice who married Rebecca Travers, al by order of the Generall Court it was appoynted thatt all suits, controversies and accounts should be determined in the County Court of Westmoreland. There hath from Court to Court bin many delays-made for that the differences could not come to anny regular tryall. At the last Court on, March 30th the Court did order thus: This order is recorded the last Court [sic]. Thomas Kirton this present court doth inform the Court that Lt. Coll. Isaac Allerton and Mr. Thomas Mathew were both present and that Jno. Rice had made default and requiringes judgment against the estate of Wm. Travers in the hands of the Court doth order that Kirton have judgment.

TRAVERS, Foure thousand pounds of tobb & cask in full of his part & share of the Estate personall of the sd Coln!!. his deced Father, as also Eight pounds three shillings three pence half penny Sterling money if it shall appeare the said Mr. RICE hath reced the same with cost als exe. And Whereas there still remaines a Dispute concerning the paymt. of Quitrents for the lands of the sd SAMLL. TRAVERS during his minority amounting to 1500 lb. tobb cask, It is therefore ordered that if upon a mature debate at the next North side Court held for this County the sd 1500 lb. tobb & cask shall appeare to be the sd SAMLL. TRAVERS his just due to pay then so much to be deducted out of the above Order (179) Whereas Capt. SAMLL. TRAVERS is fully paid all & singular his part & portion of the Estate personall of his deced Father, ColinII, WILLIAM TRAVERS by Mr. JOHN RICE who intermarryed with the Relict & Administratrx. of the sd TRAVERS, and for as much as the sd Mr. JOHN RICE did report to this Court that Debts yet unknowne might hereafter appeare agst the sd Estate, The Court have ordered (by & with the consent of SAMLL. TRAVERS that if it shall hereafter happen that any just Debts shall be recovered agst the Estate of the sd Colnll. TRAVERS, that then the sd SAMLL. TRAVERS shall & will beare & pay his proper proporconably part thereof

This land lying on the main branch of Totuskey Creek, adj land sold by said Travers to Dan'l Everett. Entry includes "either of our heirs in by from or under Col'n William Travers Father of me the said Samuel Travers". Signed: Sam'l Travers, Fran Travers. Witness: Peter Hall, Gilbert Hornby (or Fornby), Mary x Wollard. Recorded 20 Jan 1693/4.

Whereas my said Father inter alia dyed seized of a certain divident or Tract of lande in Stafford County upon ye head of DOEGGS CREEKE containinge Seven hundred & eighty six acres of lands as by ye Survey & Pattent will appeare writ Pattent beares date ye 22d of March 1677 recorded in ye Secretaries Office and forasmuch as that ye afovesaid Divident of 786 acres of land by dissent in Law came & descended to SAMLL. of RICHMOND aforesaid Eldest Brother to me ye said RAWLEIGH & heir alt law to my said Father wch aforesaid SAMLL TRAVERSE in consideration of his Brotherly love and naturall affection to me ye said RAWLEIGH TRAVERSE did sell and sett over in fee simple to me ye said RAWLEIGH as appeares by his Deed of Conveyance to mee executed & recorded in RAPPAHANNOCK COUNTY COURT records dated ye ( ) of ( ) Now Know yee that I ye said RAWLEIGH TRAVERSE for ye sume of five thousand poundes of Tobacco in hande paid mee by WM LAMBERT of NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY Planter have sold unto ye said WM LAMBERT his heires & assignes ye uppermost two hundred acres of ye said Divident bounded begininge alt an old marked pohickorie standings at ye head of DOGUES CREEKE close by ye HORSE ROAD COVE and against a great branch that is on ye Northeast of said Creeke and extendinge into ye woods accordinge to ye Pattent North West by a tine of trees West South West to a Corner tree to bee marked & from thence North East & by East to ye above mentioned pohickorie to him ye said WILLIAM LAMBERT his heires & assignees for ever and I warrant against any person ciaimeinge by or under mee ye said RAWLEIGH TRAVERSE or from or under my said Brother SAMLL. TRAVERSE his heires or under my said Father Coll.
