MARYE, JAMES, St. George's Parish, Spotsylvania County, d. June 21, 1774, Executors Bond dated Dec. 21, 1788. Wit. William Dangerfield, John Chew, Anne Chew, Sophia Crawford, Jesse Haydon, Susanna Marshall. Ex. Thomas Colson, John Chew, James Marshall. Leg. son James, land on Matapony, known by name of "Lewis River," and tract of land whereon I now live; daughter Lucy Marye; daughter Susanna Marye; daughter Salley Marye; tract of land known as "Motts" to my daughters. The money Dr. William Marshall now owes me, three hundred and fourteen pounds, to be applied towards paying my part of the legacies which my father directed, by his will, should be paid his grandchildren. James Marshall and Dr. William Marshall, guardians to my son James. My brother Peter Marye and Col. Joseph Brock and my executors to be guardians to my daughters. In case any of my land should be sold, I desire it may be part of the tract whereon I live, which lies on the E. side of the Old Mine road.
Codicil dated Oct. 3, 1780, witnessed by Joseph Brock and John Chew, and commencing "I, James Marye, clerk," etc. mentions daughter Sarah, son James, daughter Lucy. Money due me from Col. William Grayson, which bond is in the hand of Mr. John Smith, of Winchester, and the money due from my brother Peter, to be equally divided among my three younger children. Page 376)

KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I PETER MARYE of County of Culpeper am held and firmly bound to ANN GREEN of said County in the full and Just sum of One thousand to be paid to said ANN GREEN her heirs, to the payment well and truly to be made I bind myself my heirs firmly by these presents; Sealed with my seal and dated this 17th day of July 1787
The Condition of the above obligation is such that whereas PETER MARYE had contracted with said ANN GREEN to sell one hundred and forty acres of land in the County aforesaid and two lofts with their appurtenances in the Town of FAIRFAX about which certain disputes have arisen between said PETER MARYE and said ANN GREEN and they having agreed to refer and finally determine the same have for that purpose mutually appointed COLO. JOHN GREEN and COLO. JAMES SLAUGHTER to arbitrate and settle all disputes and differences concerning the same (and in case they cannot agree, they are hereby authorised to elect an Umpire) whose award as the award of any two of them made in writing and returned to any Term of Culpeper Court shall be made a Record of the Court and shall forever obligatory and binding the said parties; Now if PETER MARYE his heirs do abide by and strictly comply with the said Referrees and all and every matter and thing which in the same may be contained, Then this obligation to be void otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue
