      06-Jul-1640 5 CCR2 1640-45 JOHN WILKINS SERVANT KNOCKS ON HEAD

      The deposition of John Dolby aged twenty years or there- aboutes sworne and examinied in open Courte sayeth as Followeth. This deponend sayeth that about a Fortnight since or thereaboutes heard John Marshall say unto him this deponent, that hee the said Marshall could find in his heart to knock his Maister John Wilkins on the head. And Further hee deposeth not. The deposition of Walter Dickenson [aged] twenty years or thereaboutes sworne and examinied in open Cort saieth as Followeth. This deponend saieth that about a Fortnight since he heard John Marsh[all] say unto him this Deponent that hee the said Marshall could Find in his heart to knock his Mr. [master] John Wilkins on the head. And Further hee deposeth not. The deposition of Henry Metcalfe aged one and twenty years or thereaboutes sworne and examinied saieth as Followeth. This deponend saieth that the last yeare hee heard John Marshall saie that hee could Find in his heart to give his Mr.[master] John Wilkins A Kinge Henry knocke and Further he saieth not.

      Forasmuch as this Courte hath this present day taken into a serious consideration as well the manie misdemeanors and refactory courses allsoe the injurious and unlawfull speeches of John Marshall by him the said Marshall Formerly used and spoken towardes and concerninge Mr. John Wilkins, which hath at large appeared by severall depositions Formerly deposed and this present day taken And whereas the same hath tended to such dangerous and ungodly action And being such ill president It is there upon thought Fitt and soe ordered by this Courte that hee the said John Marshall shall For his enormous offences comitted suffer and undergoe the punishment of thirty stripes upon his bare shoulders, As allsoe that 15- hee satifie his said Master For all such charges as hee is to undergoe and pay both unto the high Sheriff as allsoe For all the charges of Court in and about this said suyte And Futhermore and in consideration of the promisses hee is hereby ordered From henceforth to bee and remayne upon his good Abearance and well Behaviour.

      It is thought Fitt and soe ordered by this Court that Walter Dickenson For such his obstinacies and offences as hath appeared unto this Court to bee by him comitted and towardes his Masson John Wilkins that hee shall therefore suffer and undergoe the punishment of twelve Stripes upon his Bare shoulders.

      May-1643 276 CCR2 1640-45 JOHN WILKINS WORKMAN INJURED IN LOGGING

      The deposition of William Evans taken in open Court.

      Saith That on or about the last of January past Fower of Mr. Wilkins his men were carrying of Loggs upon a hand spicke and the loggs slipp't of the Foremost handspicke And James Mprphew sayed unto Dickinson cannot you come after whereunto the said Dickinson Answeared saying my handspick is soe short I cannot carry. Whereupon the said Morphew tooke upp his handspicke and gave him two or three blowes And imeadiatly after the said Dickinson shewed this deponent his hurt and it was much about his hipp. and further saith not.

      Saith That on or about the last of January past Fower of Mr. Wilkins his men were carrying a Logge of wood upon a handspickes and the Logge Slip't of the fore handspike And James Morphey sayde to Dickinson saying Cannot you come after whereunto the said Dickinson Answeared saying my handspicke is soe short I cannot carry. Whereupon the said Morphew tooke upp his handspicke and gave him two or three blowes and presently afterwards the said Dickinson shewed this deponent his hurt and it was blacke about his hipp. And further saith not.

      This bill byndeth us Mr John Wilkins & John Marshall Joyntly & severally our heyres Exrs & Admrs or Assignes to pay or cause to bee pd unto Hugh Yeo mrchant his heryes Exres Admres or Assges ye full whole & just sume of foure hundd powndes waight of good mrchantable Virginia Leafe tobacco. Att or before ye 10th of 8ber next ensueinge ye date hereof in witness of ye truth wee have hereunto sett our handes ye 24th of Aprill./

      In the Name of God Amen. I John Wilkins of Accomacke alias Northampton County in Virginia gent. Resolving by the permission and assistance of Almighty god forthwith to take a voyage for England. And consideringe with myselfe that all men are mortall not knowing how things maye interveene or wheather it shall please god I shall return againe or not, Doe hereby declare that by virtue of these presents, all former wills by mee made and signed are Revoked and made voyd. It is my present wilL & desire that / in case I shall change my beinge in this world before the hope of my returne into Virginnia, I doe give & bequeath unto my loveinge wife Anne Wilkins And my children which god hath blessed me with by her. my whole Estate Realle and personall; moveable & immoveable makeing her my indubitable Executrix of this my last will and Testament. And desire that my debts maye in the first place bee paid. In Testimony whereof I have subscribed my hand and put my seale this 23 Day of December ano 1649

      30-Apr-1660 NORTHAMPTON CO DEEDS & WILLS ( 1657-66 P.66 ) and VA. HIST. MAG VOL ? P. 404 ANNE (-) WILKINS DEED TO SONS

      John Wilkins died 1649 aged about 57 years leaving his wife whose true name seems to have been Anne and several children. The widow married a man names Voss who soon left her a widow. In a deed bearing date April 30, 1660 Anne Voss "late wife of John Wilkins of Northampton County deceased" states that her husband John Wilkins in his last will and testament bearing date Dec. 3, 1649 did give me and his children his estate etc. now therefore for the natural love and affection I bear for them do give my two sons two plantations, granted unto my said deceased husband by patents, one bearing date 1640 being 600 acres - which I give to my son John Wilkins. Ye other patent bearing date of March 10, 1637 being 500 acres of land on Kings creek, I give to my son Nathaniel Wilkins.

      The above deed was supplemted by a deed dated Oct. 5, 1665. as follows. John Wilkins son and heir of John Wilkins late of Northampton County, Virginia. deceased. Whereas my mother Anne Voss widow has given my brother Nathaniel Wilkins one dividend of land containing 500 acres on Kings creek etc. ------ .
