      Capt. George Dent Sr's Will.
      I, George Dent of CC, am sick and weak in body but of sound mind and memory and understanding. Firstly, I want my debts and funeral charges paid and my wife's thirds taken out.
      To my 3 single daughters, Slander, Joanna Greenfield, and Jane - a tract of land called Huckalbury Swamp, containing about 300 acres, so long as they live single. If one of them marries, then the other 2 to hold & possess the land during their singlehood. If a 2nd one of them marries, then the 1 remaining in a single state to hold & possess the land during the term of her living unmarried, after which, the land is to be equally divided between my 2 sons, Henry & George.
      To my sons Henry & George Dent - the rest of my lands, to be equally divided between them.
      To my 2 married daughters, to each of them - a young Negro of 10 or 12 years of age, Lhey having been provided for before.
      To my unmarried children - the rest of my personal estate, to be equally divided between them.
      Executors: my wife Eleanor and my 2 Sons, Henry & George. Signed Sep 12, 1785 - George Dent. Wit - John Marshall, Marcus Lattimer, Edward Hobart.
      Probated Dec 31, 1785 by all 3 executors and by the oaths of all 3 witnesses. Eleanor Dent, widow of Capt George Dent, late of CC, decd, quitted her claim to the bequest & devise made to her in the will of her sd husband dead, & elected, in lieu thereof, her dower, or third part, of the deed's estate, both real & personal. Letters Testamentary were granted to Eleanor Dent, Henry Dent, and George Dent, the executors; their securities were Gerard B. Causin & Hoskins Hanson

      To nephew Samuel Hawkins, mullato John. Whereas the fellow I have bequeath my nephew is in a bad state of health, it he should die, then the negro I have bequeath to my nephew Caleb Hawkins called Mima shall belong to him.
      To nephew Caleb Hawkins, mullato Jack and negroes Sally and Mima with the following reservation in favour of Mr. Robert Young Senr. That he shall within six months after my expiration, pay the said Caleb Hawkins the full worth in cash of the negro woman called Mima who will then convey negro Mima to Robert Young.

      To Mrs. Ann Hanson wife to Mr. Henry M{assey} Hanson, one thousand weight of nett crop tobacco a small testimony of my esteem.
      To the vestry of Port Tobacco Parish for the purpose of repairing the churches, the principal of the debt due from the estate of my brother Josias Hawkins within eighteen months after my decease. Also the monies from the sale of a small plantation of 15 acres bequeath me by my brother Josias Hawkins and now occupied by Mrs. Ann Lowe. {The total to the vestry} no more than one hundred pounds currency. It is probably that the monies from the sale of the above land will exceed the debt due from my brothers estate so any surplus to go to my nephew Caleb Hawkins.
      To executor for the year after my death, the use of negroes Jack, Jno., Charles and Aaron and the profits from their labour together with what of the debts are due me he may be able to collect to be equally divided among my nieces, Eleanor and Jane Dent, and my nephew Henry H. Hawkins.

      To sister Jane Hawkins, my part or moiety of the land on which I reside and which was purchased of Matthew Blair, and at her death to Henry Young.
      To sister Ruth Young, mulatto Betty for her use and at her death to my nephew Josias Young.
      I hereby liberate and set free Mulatto Nace, Charles, Sarah and negro Grace.
      To sister Ruth Young, a desk and book during her life and then to Alexander Young.

      To niece Martha Young, mulatto Grace.

      To niece Eleanor Dent, negroes Sophy and her child, a mahogany chest of drawers, my riding chair and carriage horse.
      To niece Jane Dent, negro Linder and her youngest child.
      To nephew Henry Dent, negro Moses.
      To nephew George Dent, eighty pounds current money.
      To sister Ruth Young, the use of a mahogany knife case with twelve silver table spoons and the knives and forks belonging to the case and after her death to her two daughters.

      To niece Mary Ashton, two silver kans.
      To niece Mary Hanson, a bed and furniture and a mare called Lovelin. Also, the use of negro Milly and her youngest child and after her death, to her children.

      I, Eleanor Dent of CC, being at present in a low and sickly state of health but of a sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding;
      To niece Elizabeth Dent Peyton, 1/6 part of the appraisment amount of my slaves.
      To nephew Johannes Greenfield Dent Storke, 1/6 part of the appraisment amount of my slaves.
      To sister Jane Dent the residue of my personal estate and whereas it is my wish that the children of my brothers and sister Ann Parnham should (after the death of my sister Jane, to whom from a sense of obligation and gratitude I now leave the greater part of my estate) receive a part of my negro property, I therefore request her to secure by will or otherwise to the children of my brothers Henry Dent and George Dent and of my sister Ann Parnham a portion of the negro property.
