James Thomas Sr's Will & Codicil.
I, James Thomas, CC, am infirm of body but of sound mind and memory. Firstly, I want my just debts paid.
To my eldest son, James Thomas - a tract of land called Thomas' Discovery, and a tract called Thomas' discovery enlarged, and a Negro man named John.
To my son Alexander Thomas - 1 heifer.
To my granddaughter Sophania Thomas, daughter of Alexander Thomas - a Negro boy named Thomas.
To my son Thomas Thomas - a Negro woman named Ann, a Negro boy named Henry, a Negro child named Lucy.
To my daughter Elizabeth Baden - a Negro woman named Rebecca, a Negro woman named Lucy, a Negro boy named Isaac.
To my son-in-law John Baden - a Negro lad named Benjamin, in consideration that sd John Baden pays 50 £without interest, to my daughter Eleanor Davis, at 2 payments, half within 1 year after my death, the rest within 2 years after my death. If sd John Baden refuses to take legacy, then my executor shall sell the lad named Benjamin, and pay the money to my sd daughter, Eleanor Davis.
To my grandson, John Haggett Thomas - a Negro lad named Charles.
To my granddaughter Mary Thomas, daughter of James Thomas - a Negro girl named Priscilla.
To my afd son James Thomas - the rest of my estate.

At the request of Capt. John Thomas, the following deed was recorded on Apr 20, 1745.
Mar 11, 1744[/5] from Eliz: Thomas, James Thomas, William Thomas, Anna Mary Kidwell, all of CC, to Capt. John Thomas of CC, for 127 acres in CC, part of a tract of land called "Were to them conveyed" by said John Thomas, that is to say, to Elizabeth Thomas, James Thomas, & Wm Thomas, 87 acres part of the afd tract, & 86 acres, part of the afd tract, to Anna Mary Kidwell, and for divers other good causes, herein conveyed is all that parcel of land, being part of that messuage called Were, lying in CC, bounded by the north side of the Devils Nest Branch near a White Marsh, containing and laid out for about 127 acres. Nov 25, 1745 from James Thomas of CC, planter, to William Thomas of CC, planter, for 2200 lbs tobacco and for divers other good causes, all that tract of land, being part of that messuage called Ware, lying in CC, bounded by the mouth of a small branch called the Cornfield Branch, the Spring where John Davis lately lived. Signed - James Thomas. Wit - William Middleton, Young Parran. The deed was acknowledged by James Thomas and Sophania, his wife.

Articles of agreement between Elizabeth Thomas of CC and James Thomas and William Thomas of CC. Said Eliza hereby agrees to give all her goods and chattels to sd James and William after her death, a case of drawers only excepted. Said James and William are to maintain her during her natural life, and after her death, her goods and chattels to be equally divided between sd James and William. signed - Eliz.a (T her mark) Thomas.
