      Chastain to Gray Indenture
      This indenture made the 28th day of October 1799 between Lewis Chastain of the County of Frederick of the one part and Barbara Gray of the County of Westmoreland of the other. Witnesseth that Lewis Chastain in consideration of five shillings current money in hand has sold to Barbara Gray her daughter until the said Susanna shall attain to the age of 18 years which will be on the first day of September 1816. In witness whereof the said Lewis Chastain in the said Barbara Gray have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first above written.

      At a court held for Westmoreland County the 26th day of October 1799 the aforegoing bill of sale from Chastain to Gray was acknowledged by Lewis Chastain a party thereto and ordered to be recorded.

      Chastain & Cox to Wright Indenture
      This indenture made the 7thday of June, 1800 between Lewis Chastain of Frederick and Anne Cox of Northumberland of the one part and William Wright of Westmoreland County of the other part. Witnesseth that Lewis and Anne in consideration of two hundred and sixty pounds in hand has sold unto William Wright all that tract of land situate in the said County of Westmoreland adjoining the lands of Benedict Middleton and others and is described to be all the land where the late Elizabeth McFarlane, the widow of the late Doctor Thomas McFarlane did reside and containing 220 acres of land. In witness whereof they the said Lewis Chastain and Anne Cox have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first above written. Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of

      Lewis Chastain and Anne Cox to William WrightJune 7, 1800
      This indenture made the 7thday of June, 1800 between Lewis Chastain of Frederick and Anne Cox of Northumberland of the one part and William Wright of Westmoreland County of the other part. Witnesseth that this is Lewis and Ann for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and sixty pounds ____in hand paid by said William which is hereby acknowledged they the said Lewis and Ann have bargained and sold and by these present do bargain and sell unto the said William and his heirs, and assigns that certain tract or parcel of land situate in the said County of Westmoreland adjoining the land of Benedict Middleton and ____is ______ to ____the land where the late Elizabeth McFarlane the widow of the late Doctor Thomas McFarlane did reside and containing 220 acres of land be the same more or less together with all houses, outhouses.............       Notes: Lewis Chastain was executor to will of Elizabeth McFarlane mother of Anne Cox
      Anne McFarlane (dau of Elizabeth and Thomas McFarlane) married William Cox
      V.Elizabeth Wigginton married Richard Wright (father of Francis Wright who married Elizabeth Middleton, dau of Capt Benedict) After his death she married Thomas McFarlane. They lived at Locust Hall. (This is the Anne Cox mentioned above) In the Thomas Rust vs. Chastain doc. that we have this is the Lewis Chastain mentioned as the guardian of Thomas Rust son of Samuel. Lewis Chastain married the widow of Jeremiah Rust mentioned in the document. She was Elizabeth Atwell and her sister Martha Atwell married George Middleton. The brother to Elizabeth and Martha Atwell was named William and he was married to Hannah Beale. (Was she related to Samuel Beale Jr.?)

      Thomas Rust vs. Chastein--O. S. 172; N. S. 61--Bill, 6th June, 1806. Orator's father, Samuel Rust, died 1798 testate (will in Westmoreland). Lewis Chastein became orator's guardian. Lewis Chastein formerly living in Frederick County, was in 1811 living in Kentucky.

Grandsons, Samuel Rust, Samuel Crabb, Thomas Rust (300 acres purchased of Mathew Kenner, Daniel Tebbs, Thomas Allison, Presley Cox); daughter, Elizabeth Crabb (land purchased of Presley Cox and Ro. Jeffries); devisee Hannah Atwell, daughter of Mary Beale; devisee Richard Atwell, son of William Atwell; legatee Nancy Atwell, daughter of William Atwell; legatee Molly Atwell, daughter of William Atwell; legatee Charlotte Atwell, daughter of William Atwell; sister Hannah Banghus, (Baughus); grandson Thomas Rust; legatee Susanna Keene; executors William Atwell and John Crabb. Sr. Dated 21st March, 1798. Recorded in Westmoreland 28th January, 1799. (Note on back of will): Jeremiah Rust married an Attwell. Her brother died 1788 intestate, leaving Mrs. Rust and a minor sister, Miss Attwell, who lived in Jeremiah's family. Jeremiah died about 1791 or 92; his widow married Chastine, the plaintiff; the minor sister married one Middleton; both died about year ----; Middleton left a will.Lewis Chastain, Methodist Minister conducted the marriage of John King and Alice Wroe 12-25-1798 dau of Jn. Wroe d. 1794. Jeremiah Oldham was sec.He went to Frederick Co. Va. The same place where Benedict Rust lived when he sold the land to Samuel Beale, Jr.
