      Charles County Land Record Book A#2, 1752-1756; Page (248), Aug 15, 1754 from Francis Posey of CC, planter, to the Vestry of Durham Parish of CC, for 16,000 lbs of tobacco, and for divers other good causes, a tract of land in sd Parish in CC called Saint Johns, bounded by a parcel of land called Jerico, the east side of the Main Fresh run of Nanjemy Cr or Avon River called Samton Cr where a stone is now fixed marked with the letters FP, containing about 200 acres. Signed - Frans (0 his mark) Posey. Wit - Thos Stone, Walter Hanson, Jno Elgin, Robt Franklin, Ann, the wife of the sd Francis, relinquished her right of dower to the lands within mentioned.       Charles County Land Record Book O#3, 1765-1770; Page 143. Depositions, CC, Dec 19, 1766. Ann Posey, aged 59 years, says that on Aug 29, 1760, she was sent for as a midwife by William Simpson, to a Negro wench of hie, whom she delivered of a boy, and as deponent was dressing sd child, William Simpson told her, when she was done, to deliver it to his daughter, Elizabeth, for that he made a present of it to Elizabeth, and told this deponent, with many others present, to take notice thereof. Some time after, sd Simpson came to her husband's house to pay her for the delivery afd, when he made mention of the gift of sd Negro boy & said he allowed him to be the property of sd Elizabeth. This deponent says that she was informed that sd Negro boy was called Tom, and when she has gone to sd Simpson's house, a Negro boy of that name has come to her and called her granny.       CC, Dec 27, 1766. Mary Hagan, aged 50 years or thereabout, declares that years ago, she lived at the house of Mr. William Simpson of CC about 10 or 11 months, and at the time she went away, sd Simpson had a Negro woman named Bess, big with child, and further says that about 6 months after she left the house of Mr. Simpson, this deponent came there to see the family & then saw sd Bess suckling a Negro child, which child, they told this deponent, was named Tom, and when at the house, she was told by mrs. Simpson, the wife of the sd Simpson, & Elenor Clemons & Elizabeth Simpson, daughters of sd William Simpson, that the child Tom, then at the breast, was made a present of to sd Elizabeth, by her father, the very night it was born, in presence of the midwife.       The deposition of Ann Jones, aged 50 years or thereabouts, says that she was present when a Negro wench of William Simson's in CC was delivered of a boy named Tom, & Mrs. Posey, who delivered sd wench, asked sd William Simson if he would give sd Negro boy to his daughter Elizabeth, and he said he would. She says she has often heard Simson call the Negro boy Tom, his daughter's Negro. Signed - Ann (X her mark) Jones. Fairfax County, Virginia.
