      THIS INDENTURE made fifth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred thirty and one and in the fourth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the grace of God of Great Brittain &c., Between JAMES LOVE and MARY his Wife of Parrish of North.farnham in Richmond County of one part and WILLIAM SMITH of Parish and County aforesaid of other part; Witnesseth that JAMES LOVE in consideracon of Two thousand pounds of tobacco paid by WILLIAM SMITH. the receipt whereof JAMES LOVE and MARY his Wife doth hereby acknowledge themselves paid; have and by these presents doe bargain and sell unto WILLIAM SMITH his heirs all their right title and claim of a certain parcel! of land formerly sould by MILES HUGALL to JOHN PECK which is One hundred and twenty acres, which is to be equally divided between the said PECKs two Daughters, MARY LOVE, the Wife of JAMES LOVE. and JANE BATES. the Wife of EDWARD BATES, which is Sixty acres p peice, Now JAMES LOVE and MARY his Wife doth by these presents make over and convey their Sixty acres unto WILLIAM SMITH his heirs, the land scituate in Parish and County abovesaid said SMITH his heirs to have and to hold the Sixty acres of land and JAMES LOVE and MARY his Wife their heirs shall warrant save harmless and defend the Sixty acres of land with its appurtenances unto WILLIAM SMITH his heirs against the lawfull claim of every person; In Witness whereof the partys above menconed to these presents have interchangeably sett their hands & seals the day and year first above written

William Smith and wife Mary, of NFP, to Edward Bates, same; for 2000 pounds of tobacco; parcel of land formerly sold by Miles Hugall to John Peck, which is 100a which was to be equally divided between the said Pecks two daughters, Jane Bates the wife of the aforesaid Edward Bates, and Mary Love the wife of James Love, which is 50a per piece; now the said William Smith conveys his right of 50a which he bought of the said James Love and wife Mary, unto Edward Bates, after the decease of the said William Smith and wife Mary, situated in said parish; Bates to hold the land forever after the decease of the said William Smith and wife Mary.

John Woodbridge and John Tarpley appointed to go to Jane Bates, the wife of Edward Bates and receive her acknowledgement of the deed for 100a. Jane the wife of Edward Bates having been privately and apart from her said husband was examined and confessed and acknowledged she did voluntarily part with all that right,
