THIS INDENTURE made this Ninth day of July in year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty three Between BENJAMIN GRYMES together with SALLY his Wife, CHARLES GRYMES of the County of (blank) of one part and JOSEPH PORTER of County of Culpeper of other part; Witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of One hundred and eighty pounds current money of Virginia to them the said BENJAMIN GRYMES together with (blank) his Wife and CHARLES GRYMES well and truly in hand paid, have bargained and sold unto JOSEPH PORTER his heirs a certain tract of land containing by estimation Eight hundred & ninety eight acres be the same more or less lying in the Fork of ROBINSON RIVER, Culpeper County, and bounded Begining at one red Oak and pile of Stones in JAMES MADISONs line, thence with his line S. 24 Wt. 310 poles to a box Oak and Pine standing on the south side of BARNETTS ROAD, thence up the several courses of said Road to one Pine by the said Road, thence N. 5 deg. E. 25 poles to one pine, Corner to JOHN RHODIFER on a South hill side, thence with his line N. 52 deg West 130 pole to a red Oak and Pine in a Valley, corn: to said RHODIFER and JACOB MEDLEY, thence with MEDLEYs line No. 10 deg. E.182 poles corn. to WILLIAM BLEDSOE's three Pines & Hicory, thence with BLEDSOEs line S. 62 E. to the begining; Together with all houses water courses orchards and all other appurtenances belonging with all rents and reversion of rents and all other estate right title to the same; free from the trouble or molestation of any person lawfully claiming the same; To have and to hold all the land from all incumbrances of mortgages dowers & reversions to the only use of JOSEPH PORTER his heirs; As Witness our hands and seals the day & year above written

The Commonwealth of Virginia to ZACH. BURNLEY & JOHNNY SCOTT, Gentlemen, Justices of ORANGE COUNTY Greeting. Whereas BENJAMIN GRYMES and SALLY his Wife by their certain Indenture of Bargain & Sale bearing date this 9th day of July 1783 have sold and conveyed unto JOSEPH PORTER the fee simple Estate of Eighty hundred & ninety acres of land lying in County of Culpeper, And whereas the said SALLY cannot conveniently travel to our said County Court of Culpeper to make acknowledgement of the said Conveyance; (the Commission for the privy Examination of SALLY, the Wife of BENJAMIN GRYMES); Witness JOHN JAMESON Clerk of our said Court at the Courthouse aforesd. the 9th day of July 1787 and in the 11th year of the Commonwealth
ORANGE Sct. We do hereby certify that by virtue of the within dedimus to us directed, we have personally examined the within named SALLY GRYMES seperately and apart from her Husband (the return of the execution of the privy Examination of SALLY GRYMES); Given under our hands & seals this 9th day of July 1787

This Indenture of Bargain and Sale from BENJAMIN GRYMES & SALLY his Wife & CHARLES GRYMES to JOSEPH PORTER together with a receipt thereon endorsed was proved as to CHARLES GRYMES by the Oaths of NICHOLAS PORTER 'witness thereto and ordered to be Certified; And at a Court held for the said County July 16th, 1787 This Indenture was fully proved by the Oaths of THOMAS PORTER and HENRY SPARKS -witnesses thereto and with a Commission thereto annexed and certificate thereon endorsed were ordered to be recorded

THIS INDENTURE made the 13th day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & ninety Between CHARLES GRYMES of the Parish of CHRIST CHURCH in County of MIDDLESEX & State of Virginia of one part and PHILIP LUDWELL GRYMES of BRANDON in the same Parish, County & State of other part; Witnesseth that CHARLES GRYMES in consideration of the sum of Eleven hundred & twenty four pounds. Five shillings lawfull money of Virginia by said PHILIP LUDWELL GRYMES to said CHARLES GRYMES in hand paid, doth by these presents bargain & sell unto PHILIP LUDWELL GRYMES his heirs all that Plantation tract of land being the residue & remaining part of a larger tract of land devised unto CHARLES GRYMES by PHILIP GRYMES his deced,, Father; & is situate in the Fork of the RIVER ROBINSON in County of Culpeper containing by late Survey made on the 22nd. day of November last past (hereto annexed) by JOHN GRINAN, Surveyor of Culpeper County, five hundred & fifty three acres be the same more or less and is bounded, Begining at a Gum tree on the side of the ROBINSON RIVER, six poles below the mouth of the GREAT RUN, and is a corner to the land sold by said CHARLES GRYMES to JOSEPH PORTER; thence up the several courses of the said River to a red Oak & Hickory standing on a Rock and is a corner of the land sold by the said CHARLES GRYMES unto JOHN TERRELL, but now in possession of NATHANIEL WELCH, thence with the line of the said TERREL (now WELCH's) North 68:30 degrees West 232 poles passing TERRELs (now WELCH's) corner at two box & two black Oak trees, and containing the same course 51 poles to two black Oaks, the corner of the land sold by said CHARLES GRYMES TO ALEXANDER WAUGH, thence with the line of said WAUGH South twenty degrees West 292 poles to a white Oak on GREAT RUN, the corner to the said WAUGH, & to the Land sold by said CHARLES GRYMES to NICHOLAS PORTER, but now in the possession of HUGH WALKER, thence passing the corner of said WAUGH & PORTER (now WALKER) crossing the GREAT RUN and continuing the same course along PORTERs (now WALKERs) line thirty six poles over the Run to a Pine, a corner of his Land, thence along the line of said Land South thirty eight degrees East one hundred & eleven poles to two small Hickories & a small Pine,another corner of said PORTERs (now WALKERs land), thence along another line of said PORTER (now WALKER) East twenty two poles to a white Oak corner to the said NICHOLAS PORTER (now WALKER & JOSEPH PORTER), thence with a line of the said JOSEPH PORTER to the begining tree; To have & to hold the parcel of land with all houses gardens rents priviledges and appurtenances belonging to PHILIP LUDWELL GRYMES & his heirs in fee simple; In Testimony whereof the said CHARLES GRYMES hath hereunto set his hand & affixed his seal the day & year above written
