      KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I JAMES SPILMAN of the County of LINCOLN [Kentucky] am held & firmly bound unto CHARLES KEMPER of Culpeper County in the just and full sum of One thousand pounds current money of Virginia to be paid to said CHARLES KEMPER or to his heirs, for the true payment whereof I bind myself my heirs firmly by these presents; Sealed with my seal and dated the thirtieth day of March one thousand seven hundred & eighty six The Condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bounden JAMES SPILMAN in consideration of the sum of Eleven pounds to him in hand paid by the said CHARLES KEMPER hath bargained sold and made over to said KEMPER his heirs one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of FAYETTE on the South Waters of LICKING, joining JOHN HARRISSes upper & first survey of 5000 acres and said HARRISes Survey of 30000 acres containing 421 acres being part of a larger tract of 1842 acres claimed by sd SPILMAN; said KEMPER or his assigns to have choice of ends of said tract together with every of its appurtenances, And the said JAMES SPILMAN doth hereby oblige himself his heirs to warrant & forever defend the said land and premises to the said KEMPER his heirs against every person whatsoever; And further that JAMES SPILMAN his heirs shall any time hereafter (if requested by the said KEMPER his heirs) make & acknowledge to the said KEMPER or to his heirs a good and lawfull Deed of Conveyance and General Warranty for the said land & premises to said CHARLES KEMPER or to his heirs all which agreement if faithfully and punctually complyed with then the above obligation to be void else to remain & continue in full force & virtue at Law Signed Sealed & Acknowledged in the presence of us

      KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I JAMES SPILMAN, (Son of THOMAS SPILMAN) late of KING GEORGE County have bargained sold & delivered unto WILLIAM SPILMAN of Culpeper County two feather beds, bedsteads & furniture, one chest, one woollen wheel, one flax do, four pewer plates, one pewter dish and two basons, two iron pots, one iron Baker, one Cow & heifer yearling marked with a crop & two slits in the right ear and a crop hole & underkeel in the left; five hogs marked with a slit in each ear, one Table & five chairs and for value received of him do warrant and defend the said household furniture stock kc. unto said SPILLMAN his heirs against the lawful claim of any person; In Witness I have hereunto set my haad and seal this 20th day of May 1788
