A note. John Stevens, witness, is a central character in our book, PAMUNKEY NEIGHBORS OF ORANGE COUNTY, VIRGINIA. This is the first time he is noted in the Deed Books of Orange County. He was living on the land of his father, James Stevens, of Caroline County, and had married Sarah Mountague, daughter of Peter and Anthorit (Thomas) Mountague.
