Whereas concerning a Contract of Marriage between me, JOHN POWELL, and FRANCES, the daughter of MARK STOWERS, it was imagined by some people that the said Mark Stowers made some light promise to me .. of £100 .. which said promise might in time to come occasion some trouble. These are to certifie -- that I have received full satisfaction of Stowers for all gifts -- that I have no claim or demands -- me nor my heirs against Mark Stowers or his heirs .. 7 Nov 1763 . .

THIS INDENTURE made this 11th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & Eighty six Between JOHN POWELL & FRANCES his Wife of the County of Culpeper of one part & JOHN STANSIFER of the said County of the other part; Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Thirty pounds current money of Virginia to him the sd. POWELL in hand paid; have bargained and sold unto the said JOHN STANSIFER his heirs a certain parcel of land containing by estimation One hundred & forty eight acres be the same more or less lying on the Branches of the ROBERSON RIVER on the East side of the South Ridge of the DOUBLE TOP MOUNTAIN in the said County & bounded; Beg: at two Gums & Chesnut Oak and the hight top, thence No. 56 E, with WM. SMITHs line 12 pole to a Spanish Oak & Locust in MORTON CHRISTOPHER Cor. then N. in his line 486 pole a Chesnut & Chesnut Oak in JOHN STENSIFERs corner, then S, 88 W. in the said STENSIFERs line, thence N. 78 W. 90 pole to two Chesnut Oaks, thence 1 d. E. to the begining; Together with all houses orchards mines minerals & all other appurtenances belonging; with all rents and all the estate right title that now or ever hereafter appurtaining to the same free from trouble or molestation of any person whatsoever lawfully claiming the same; To have and to hold the aforesd. land & premises to the only use of him the said STANSIFER, as Witness our hands and seals this day & date above written

POWELL well & truly in hand paid; have bargained and sold unto MICHAEL WILHOIT his heirs a certain parcel of land containing by estimation One hundred & forty one acres be the same more or less lying & being on the Waters of the ROBERSON & RAPERDAN RIVERs in the said County and bounded; Beg: at two Chesnut Oaks & Chesnut, thence N. 56 d. E. 10 poles to two gums in WM. SMITHs line, thence N. 1 d. W. with JOHN STONSIFERs line 270 poles to two Chesnut & Spanish Oaks, thence N. 78 W. with the said STONSIFERs line 75 pole near the top of the Mountain to three Chesnuts, thence S. 14d. W. on the South side of the Mountain to the BEAR SPRING to two Chesnuts, from thence to the beg:, One hundred & forty one acres together with all houses fences mines minerals & all appurtenances belonging; with all rents and all other the estate right title that may now or ever hereafter appurtain to the said, free from the trouble hindrance or molestation of any person whatsoever lawfully claiming the same; To have and to hold all the land & premises with every parcel thereof from all incumbrances of Mortgages Dowers & reversions and to be to the only use of said MICHAEL WILHOIT his heirs, as Witness our hands & seals the day & year above written
