      Charles County Land Records 1786-1790; Liber D#4; Page 257, Apr 15 from 1788 from Lawson Speake and Henrietta Speake of CC, executors of Richard Speake, late of CC, decd, who was sole executor of John Speake, late of CC, deed, and George Speake of Prince William County, Virginia, eldest son and heir at law of the afd John Speaks, to George Mason, Esq, of Fairfax County, Virginia, Whereas sd John Speaks was seized of 4 tracts of land in CC near Chinquamuxon and Mattawoman Creeks, one called Little Craymor - one called Hardshift - one called Allansons Secret - and one called Hardships Discovery, and by his will dated Jan 30, 1775, directed that all his lands should be sold by his executor, the afd Richard Spcake, in consequence whereof, his sd executor, Richard Speake, sold the afd 4 tracts to the afd George Mason, for 31 shillings and 6 pence per acre, upon an exact survey of the same (to be made at the charge of sd John Speake's estate) be found to contain, clear of elder patents, and of each other, and the sd George Mason paid to sd Richard Speake, in his lifetime, to wit, on Oct 31, 1777, the sum of 400 £on account of his sd purchase, and entered into possession of sd 4 tracts of land, and has ever since remained and now is in the actual possession of the same. But before the exact quantity of the 4 tracts was ascertained, or deeds for the same executed, sd Richard Speaks died. Now this deed witnesses that the sd Lawson Speake and Henrietta Speake, executors of sd Richard Speake decd, and sd George Speake, eldest son and heir at law of John Speake decd, wanting to confirm the afd sale and purchase, and to prevent any lawsuits or controversies touching the same, for and in consideration of the afd 400 £paid by sd George Mason to the before mentioned Richard Speake in his lifetime, and for the further consideration of 47 £13 shillings to Lawson Speaks and Henrietta Speake in hand paid by sd George Mason, and for 10 shillings to sd George Speake in hand paid by sd George Mason, confirm to sd George Mason, in his actual possession now being, the afd 4 tracts of land in CC near Chinquamuxon and Mattawoman Creeks, contiguous to each other, viz, the 1st being a tract called Little Craymor, originally granted to Thomas Allanson for about 200 acres by patent dated Mar 9, 1667, and by sd Allanson sold to Roger Dickinson by deed dated Nov 6, 1667, the 2nd being a tract of land called Hardshift, originally granted to Roger Dickinson for about 50 acres by patent dated Jun 10, 1671, which sd 2 tracts were by the sd Roger Dickinson sold to John Munns by deed dated Mar 8, 1683, and were afterwards sold by Robert Hanson and Violetta, his wife (daughter and heiress of Francis Harrison) to Richard Speake (father to the abovementioned John Speake) by deed dated Aug 12, 1742 - the 3rd being a tract called Allanson's Secret, originally granted to Thomas Allanson for 100 acres, by patent dated Jun 13, 1734, and by Charles Allanson, son and heir of the sd Thomas Allanson, sold to Richard Speake (father to the before mentioned John Speake) by deed dated Oct 6, 1741, which sd 3 tracts were, by the will of sd Richard Speake (the father) devised to his son, the before mentioned John Speake, and the 4th tract called Hardships Discovery, surveyed for the before mentioned John Speake by virtue of a warrant from the proprietor's office, and containing 34M acres, per certificate of survey dated Nov 25, 1774.
