      Sarah Smith's Will
      In the Name of God Amen,
      I Sarah Smith of the County of Westmorland commonwealth of Virginia, spinster, being weak but of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and constitute this my last will and testament in manner and form following.
      Imprimis my body to be decently buried in the Cople Parish Glebe garden at the feet nephew Gregory and niece Lucy Smith.
      Item I give and bequeath my Negro maid, Judy to my brother Edward Smith and his heirs forever.
      Item I give and bequeath to my niece Mary Jacqueline Smith, daughter of my sister Mary Smith, Negro woman Bridget, her daughter Milly and son Jonathan.
      Item I give and bequeath to my niece Ann Smith daughter of my sister Mary Smith, Negro woman Caty and her son Kippon.
      Item I give and bequeath to my niece Sarah Smith, daughter of my sister Mary Smith, 200 pounds, reserving to the use of my sister Mary Smith the interest during her natural life.
      Item it is my will and desire that my sister Mary Smith shall have the use and profits of all the Negroes above bequeath to my two nieces Mary Jacqueline Smith and Ann Smith during her natural life.
      Item I give and bequeath to my three nieces, Mary Jacqueline Smith, Ann Smith, and Sarah Smith all my furniture and wearing clothes of every kind to be equally divided among them.
      Item I give and bequeath to my sister Martha Jacqueline Smith a mourning ring of 10 pounds value.
      Item I give and bequeath all the residue of my estate whether real personal or mixed to my brother John Smith and Edward Smith and their heirs to be equally divided between them.
      Lastly, I constitute and appoint my two brothers, John Smith and Edward Smith and the Rev. Mr. Thomas Smith executors to this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 21st day January 1779.

      At a court held for Westmoreland County the 30th day of March 1779 this will was proved according to law by the oaths of Richard Lee and John Turberville to the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
