Charles A. Ford's Will.
I, Charles Alason Ford of CC, an now up in years and somewhat indisposed in point of health, though of sound and disposing memory and judgment
To my son Chandler Ford because he is to have my land, he must always furnish his two maiden sisters, Constantinah and Charity Ford, during their living single, with a house and home to their reasonable contentment, either in the same family with himself, or if they like that better by removing to some more convenient spot, for their use, the house or houses in which he, sd
Chandler, now lives, and that they have access always to firewood from off the land, together with a garden and other necessary conveniences.
To my daughter Sarah Maddox the small tract of land in my neighborhood that I have lately purchased from Samuel Clagget, for which I have granted him my bond. The land is to be conveyed to her when she takes in and releives the bond for the value. Also my three Negro girls, Peg, Jean, and Dinah.
To my sd son Chandler Ford a Negro fellow named Tom, and a Negro fellow named Jack. Also my watch.
To Chandler's daughter, my granddaughter, Anne Ford a Negro girl named Sall, with her increase.
To my son-in-law John Smoot my Negro fellow called Will.
To my grandson Samuel Smoot my Negro boy Bob.
To my granddaughter Nancey Smoot my Negro girl Mary, with her increase.
To my daughter Anne Smoot, the mother of afd Samuel and Nancey Smoot the use of the last two named Negroes, during her life, unless she chooses to part with them before.
To my grandson Benjamin Ford Higgs my Negro girl called Lett, with her future increase.
To my daughter Constantinah Ford my Negro boy Mack, my Negro woman Mill,'with her son, Townly, and daughter, Ally, and her future increase, and my Negro girl Nance, and her future increase, and also the choice of one of my best beds with its furniture, one linen wheel, one great wheel, my sorrel horse, and a mare colt.
To my daughter Charity Ford now Charity Billingsly my Negro fellow Stephen, my Negro woman Abigail, with her two children, Fredrick and Alce, and their future increase. Also, her next choice of one my best beds and furniture, one linen wheel, one large wheel, a young riding horse, and a young mare. Also my Negro boy named Calvert.
To my son Chandler Ford my old wench Venus.
To my son-in-law Jonathan Higgs a couple of dollars and no more.
My desire is if my children can agree on the terms that the Negroes shall remain together for a year after my death. If any of my children should have any accounts against my estate, I want their several claims to be deducted out of their legacies.
