      Jane Norman, born say 1715, was called "a Mallatto woman named Jane (no last name) Living at Mr. Richard Keen's" on 23 August 1737 when she confessed to the Prince George's County court that she had an illegitimate child by a "free Mallatto." The court ordered that she receive twenty lashes and serve her master an additional year and a half and sold her two-month-old son James to Edward Swann until the age of twenty-one. She had another child by a free person before 28 November 1738 when the court ordered that she receive fifteen lashes and serve her master twelve months for the trouble of his house, bound her male child to Keene until the age of twenty-one years, and ordered Keene to give the boy a year of schooling and a decent suit of clothes at the end of his indenture. She was called "Jan Molato Norman" on 26 November 1745 when the court bound her son Joseph to her master until the age of twenty-one. On 28 June 1748 and 28 March 1748/9 she was convicted of having illegitimate children by a free person. On 27 November 1750 she confessed to having another illegitimate child named Basil who was bound to her master until the age of twenty-one [Court Record 1736-8, 497, 505; 1738-40, 192, 200; 1744-6, 248, 279; 1747-8, 168; 174; 1748-9, 181; 1749-50, 244].

      Several more land records exist for Edward relating to mortgage and sale of Egleton. The last record for Edward Swann, Sr., was the 1790 census of Charles Co.. which shows 3 white males over 16, 2 white males under 16, and 3 white females. He is not found in the 1800 census.

If, however, sd Edward shall pay annually 4 £7 shillings and 6 pence farthing for 2 years, it being the interest for the purchase money, and the principal, which is 72 £18 shillings and 10 pence half penny at the end of sd 2 years, then sd Samuel is to reconvey Eagelton to sd Edward. Whereas sd Swann owes sd Redgate 58 £18 shillings and 7 pence with legal interest, now this deed witnesses that, for the further and better security of the payment of sd sum and for and in consideration of 5 shillings sterling to sd Swann in hand paid by sd Ridgate, Swann sells to Ridgate, part of a tract of land in CC called Elestone, containing about 121 acres, bounded by the mouth of a branch that divides the lands of the Revd. Mr, John Urquhart's part of [sd] land and the land of the sd Edward Swann's, containing about 124 acres [sic]. Whereas Edward Swann, on Apr 21, 1789, mortgaged to Thomas How Ridgate, all that part of a tract of land in CC called Eglestone, containing about 121 acres. And whereas sd Edward Swann did, by the consent of sd Ridgate, sell to Samuel Swann Sr, all the sd part of a tract of land called Egleton mortgaged to sd Redgate by sd Edward Swann, and by him conveyed on Sep 15, 1789 to sd Samuel Swarm, by deed. And whereas sd Samuel Swann Sr paid sd Redgate on account of sd Edward Swann in part of the sd sum of 58 £18 shillings and 7 pence expressed in the sd mortgage to be paid to sd Redgate by sd Edward Swann, in consideration of sd Samuel Swann Sr having so paid to Redgate on account of sd Edward Swann the sd sum of 25 £12 shillings and 2 pence, sd Redgate hereby releases his right to sd tract of land called Eagleton, mortgaged as afd. however, sd Redgate does not discharge sd Edward Swann from the debt expressed in sd mortgage more than 25 £12 shillings and 2 pence paid by sd Samuel Swann Sr to sd Redgate.       Charles County Land Records 1786-1790; Liber D#4; Page 615. Aug 29, 1789 from Thomas Andrew Dyson, as CC Sheriff, to Benjamin Reeder of CC, by virtue of a fieri facial from the Worshipful Bennett Dyson to expose to sale the following land, at which sale Reeder was the highest bidder at $1 per acre, herein conveyed is about 74 acres, being part of a tract of land called Eglestone, which sd land was deeded by James Swann to Edward Swann on May 17, 1760, as by CC records will more fully appear. This sale is as a consequence of a judgment obtained by a warrant by ad Reeder against the afd Edward Swann. Reeder bought the land on May 15, 1789. This deed confirms to Reeder and assigns a title the land. signed - Thos. A. Dyson, Shff Charles County. Wit - Sam Swann, James Cooksey, Dan Jenifer*, Henry Barnes*. Recorded Dec 19, 1789.
