This present contract of copartnership is agreed upon among John Semple, merchant in Portobacco in Maryland, son to the decd John Semple, merchant in Hamilton, James Lawson, merchant in Glasgow, and John Hamilton, writer in Maihline {Mouchline). Sd persons have agreed to be in company together, to carry on a joint trade to and from Virginia or Maryland. To do so, they have already purchased a ship called the Sallie and goods to send to Portobacco, to the value of 3000 £The goods are to be under the trust and management of sd John Semple. It is hereby declared that sd Semple [have] 6 12th parts, being the one half of the sd trade, and sd Lawson in 5 12th parts, and sd Hamilton the other 12th of the same, with the option to add another 12th to the capitol stock, and trade when he sees fit, [by] next Jan 1. It is agreed that the capitol stock shall be 3000 £This is a 3 year agreement, starting May 20, 1757 years, and SO long thereafter as the partners shall see fit. Lawson is to have the management and disposal for the company, of all the tobacco or other effects or sums that shall be transmitted by sd Semple to him on the company account, and is to keep exact books. Each partner will receive profit in proportion to his investment. Signed - Jo: Hamilton, James Lawson. James Montgomery, master of the ship Sally, and Joseph Marten, his mate, are witnesses to this agreement, at Maryland, on Aug 29, in the year afd [sic].       MEREDITH and GEORGE CLYMER of City of Philadelphia in Province of Pensylvania Merchants of one part and JOHN MILLS of Colchester in County of Fairfax and Colony of Virginia Merchant of other part Whereas JOHN HEATON late of said Town of Colchester Mercht in consideration of two hundred and fifty pounds current money of Virginia to him paid by the said Clymer and Merediths did bargain sell and make over unto the said Clymer and Merediths a Certain lott or piece of ground containing about eleven acres which he bought of WILLIAM BAYLY and PETER WAGENER of Colchester bounded on one side by the OX or LEESBURG ROAD, on the other by the ALEXANDRIA ROAD and on the other two sides by the land of the said Bayly and Wagener with all the buildings erected therfori Viz a dwelling house and store, Kitchen and Salt House; To have and to hold „ but if the said Heaton should well and truly pay the above sum of two hundred and fifty pounds Virginia currency to the said Clymer and Merediths then that deed should be void; as by the said Deed dated the seventh dey of December 1773 recorded among the records of the said County Court of Fairfax may appear by virtue of which deed the said two hundred and fifty pounds or any part thereof never having been paid the said Clymer and Merediths are seised of an absolute estate in the said land and house Now This Indenture Witnesseth that the said Reese Meredith, Samuel Meredith and George Clymer for sum one hundred and forty pounds Virginia currency to them paid by John Mills do sell John Mills the said dwelling house and store, kitchen and Salt House , . ,

HARPER and HARTSHORNE of same place Merchants of other part Witnesseth that for sum two hundred pounds lawfull money of Virginia Michael Thorn hath granted and to farm let all that part of GI LP INS WHARF in Town aforesaid which by a Lease from GEORGE GILPIN bearing date the Twenty second day of April 1775 was granted to the said Thorn for term of ten years subject to an annual rent of seventeen pounds payable to George Gilpin on 22d day April in every year To have and to hold during and unto the expiration of the term for which it was granted by the afsd Lease Provided always that if Michael Thorn shall pay the said Harper and Hartshorne the Just sum of two hundred pounds with lawful interest from the date of these presents within one year every clause herein contained shall cease and be utterly void .
