James Simms' Will.
I, James Simms of CC, am of perfect, sound mind and memory. Firstly, I want my debts and funeral charges paid.
To my son Joseph Semmes - a tract of land called Amendment,
containing 200 acres. Also a tract of land called Semmes amendment, containing 44 acres. Also a Negro man named Aaron, and half my stock and household furniture, and 1 set of Blacksmith's tools.
To my wife Mary Semmes - a Negro girl named Ruth, during her natural life, and afterwards, Ruth and her future increase to my son Thomas Semmes, forever. I also give Mary a Negro woman named Philliss and the remaining half of my stock and household furniture.
To my grandsons Joseph Semmes and Robert Doyne Semmes and my granddaughters Ann Simpson and Mary Semmes - 1 shilling sterling each.
To my son Joseph Semmes and my son Thomas Semmes - a tract
of land in Prince William County, Virginia called part of Walkers tract, containing 260 acres, to be equally divided between them.
Executor: my son Joseph Semmes.

I, Ann Brawner of CC being very weak of body but of perfect sound and disposing mind and memory
To son Joseph Brawner, one small feather bed and furniture.
To son Meredith Brawner, the sum of twenty five pounds current money
To grandson, Lewis Brawner, negro Moses, one feather bed and furniture and the first colt my bay mare brings alive.
To daughter Catharine Brawner, negro Tom, together with all and singular my goods sand chattels, lands, and tenements not heretofore willed during her natural life

At the request of Joseph Semmes the following Deed was recorded November 28, 1808
Indenture August 3, 1808, George W. Grayson of Fauquier County, Virginia in consideration of 397 pounds 5 shillings current money of Maryland paid by Joseph Semmes of CC has sold in fee simple tracts situated in Durham Parish called "Fagg's Adventure" containing 143 acres 3 rods and 10 perches; "Adams Delight" containing 6 acres 2 rods and 5 perches; "Enlargement" containing 12 acres 1 rod and 34 perches; "Paluson's Chance containing 59 acres 1 rod and 32 perches; and "St. Davis" the easternmost part containing 81 acres 1 rod and 30 perches. Signed George W. Grayson in the presence of and acknowledged before William Brawner, Hezekiah Garner

At the request of Joseph Semmes the following Deed was recorded March 2, 1810
Indenture made November 17, 1809; Robert Harrison Grayson of Mason County, Kentucky in consideration of $500 paid by Joseph Semmes has sold his right title and interest to parts of several tracts of land commonly known by "Fagg's Adventure" containing 143 acres 3 rods and 10 perches; "Adams Delight" containing 6 acres 2 rods and 5 perches; "Enlargement" containing 12 acres 1 Rod and 34 perches; "Patterson's Chance" containing 59 acres 1 rod and 32 perches; and "St. David's" containing 81 acres 1 rod and 30 perches all of which lands are situate in Durham Parish in Charles County containing in the whole 303 acres 2 rods and 29 perches which said lands for sold by George W. Grayson to Joseph Simmes for the sum of 397 pounds 5 shillings and 10 pence current money of Maryland which was the true considerations him for said land as will more fully appear by reference to a deed from the said George W Grayson to the said Joseph Semmes.
