This George Latimer was married to Frances James and came originally from Virginia.
I descend from Frances' brother, John Peace James. Notice that George
and Frances Latimer named their son after my ancestor--using the names
John Peace. George Latimer witnessed the will of Frances' sister's
husband in 1803 in Virginia. George and Frances were living in
Oglethorpe County, George on May 15, 1815 when Frances' other brother,
George James and wife Jane P. sold George Latimer 200 acres of land.
George James and Frances Latimer (husband George Latimer) were named in the settlement of the estate of their father in Virginia in 1809.
George James was given two portions of the settlement for himself and
his sister, Frances James Latimer, both of whom had already moved to
      Georgia.

The James, Latimer and Lenoir families are intertwined for several
generations. My ancestor married a Lenoir and George Latimer's mother
was Elizabeth (Betty) Lenoir who married John Latimer Sr. A direct
descendant of John Peace Latimer has had his DNA tested and it proves he descends from the Lenoir line. I also have a copy of the will of John
Latimer Sr. which names his children and a letter from George's mother,
Betty Lenoir Latimer, written from Georgia in 1801 where she had gone to
live with her two daughters after her husband died.

The estate settlement for Frances James Latimer's father was in Nottoway County, Virginia, which was taken from Amelia County, Virginia after the will was filed in Amelia County, Virginia in 1771. The division of the property of her father took place during court actions between 1806-1809. The will specified that the property was to be divided after the youngest daughter (Frances) reached the age of 15. The children waited longer than that to go to court to get their share of the property as their mother was still alive

Editors Oglethorpe Echo: On account of the crowded condition of your columns I will abridge this week and take only to the Washington road. Two miles a little south of east from Lexington lived George Latimer, who had five sons that were chips of the old block and made the best citizens of the counties to which they removed. William went to Cass, now Bartow, Henry to Gainesville, Thomas to Merriwether and Wyatt to Heard. John P. remained in this county.

Below the two mile post, Thomas Latimer built in the early fifties and lived till his removal from the county.

Up Dry Fork John P. Latimer, Mr. Hewell, Jefferson, Bradford, Crawford, Arnold, Jabes P. Smith, William Wynn, David Dunn, Jas. A. O. Patton, T. J. Hardin, Tolbert, Woodall, William Booth and John Winn.

To use a Texas parlance I come to a round up, but before doing so I will state an omission. George Latimer had a son, Joel, who went to Alabama
