ELGIN, Elizabeth, Charles Co. 12 Oct 1754; 22 Feb 1756
Will: In the name of God, Amen, I, Elizabeth Elgin of Charles County, being weak in body but of perfect sound mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same, knowing the uncertainty of life and that it is appointed for all once to die, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following, making null and void all other wills by me heretofore made. First and principally, I recommend my soul to the hands of Almighty God that made it, and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter named and as to what worldly estate it hath pleased God to bless me with, I dispose in the following manner.
I give to my son, John Elgin, one cow and calf, 1/2 crop of tobacco that is not already disposed of and all household goods now in his possesion with one negro man named Ned.
I give to my son, George Elgin one feather bed, two sheets, one rugg, one blankett, one bolster and one pillow.
I give to my son, Francis Elgin one feather bed, two sheets, a rugg, one blankett, one bolster, one pillow.
To my son, James Elgin, one feather bed, two sheets, a rugg, one blankett, one bolster, one pillow.
To my son, William Elgin, one feather bed, two sheets, a rugg, one blankett, one bolster, one pillow, a small square, table, a chest, one iron pott, 1 mare colt and other half of the tobacco that is not disposed of.
I give what ready moneys I have to be divided between my sons John Elgin and William Elgin.
I give to my daughter, Anne Dunnington, one negro woman named Nino, one pair sheets, one small trunk, and half my wearing apparell.
I give to my daughter, Elizabeth Winter, one cotton counterpane and one half my wearing apparell.
I give to my granddaughter, Charity Elgin, one heifer of three years and one ewe of one year old.
All the rest of my estate to be equally divided amongst my children and lastly I appoint my sons John Elgin and William Elgin Executors of this my last will and testament on this 12th day of October in the year 1754.
