Richmond County Court 5th of February 1717 /18
- PARKER y CHAPMAN. &c.
In an action of Debt between ALEXANDER PARKER, Plt. and JOSEPH CHAPMAN and WILLIAM SEALE, Defts. for seven
thousand five hundred pounds of good lawful! tobacco in hogsheads, each hogshead to weigh eight hundred pounds weight clear of caske due by Bill, this return haveing been made in the Attachment granted in this Cause, /to wit/ "Richmond ss/ In Obedience to the above Precept I have attacht the following particulars (vizt) one feather bed bolster and rugg, half a dozen of old charirs, one horse,. three cows and calves, one Negro man named Dick, p JOHN MARTIN, Sub Shenff. JOSEPH CHAPMAN, one of the Defts. appeared this day and offered to plead, upon which the Plt. s Attorney pray'd Special Bail which said CHAPMAN faileing to give, on motion of Plt.'s Attorney, Judgment is granted him against the Deft. for the aforesaid sum of tobacco and caske, which is ordered to be paid with costs als exo; And it is ordered that the Sheriff of this County cause the attached particulars to be appraised by three substantial persons upon Oath, they being first sworn before a Justice of this County, and that he deliver them to the Pit. in part of satisfaction of the Judgment

I JOHN UNDERWOOD of Stafford County Planter send greeting this sixth August 1726 Know yee that I in consideration Eight thousand five hundred pounds of Tobacco in hand paid in Casks by FRANCIS PURNELL deced late of Stafford County do discharge FRANCIS PURNEL .. his heirs .. all my right in two 150 acres of land lyeing on south side of Quantico creek being part of the uppermost thousand acres included in WILLM. BOURNS pattent being one half of that land conveyed to me by deed from DANIEL MARLEY the other part being sold by me to THOMAS CHAPMAN SENIOR which is divided by a line of marked trees formerly made and agreed upon by Thomas Chapman Senior and the said Underwood included in William Bourn's pattent of two thousand acres which uppermost thousand acres begins at a marked line of trees on Quantico creek side running thro a small branch on swamp which divides this 1000 acres from 200 acres of land sold by William Bourne to RICHARD GIBSON called Amkorums Land the first of which thousand (vizt.) the said Bourne sold unto THOMAS BARTON 400 acres runing down the said creek into the woods near the little back creek and parralel with the head line the next 300 acres be-longing to MARY the Widdow and relict to WILLIAM WALTRIDGE deceased runing same course as the other till it be compleat before mentioned so the 150 acres mentioned to be sold ..

At Court held in Stafford County 10th August 1726 John Underwood came into Court acknowledged deed of sale to MARY ASHMORE & JOHN CHAPMAN PURNELL, Admr. of FRANCIS PURNELL deced which on their motion is admitted to record.

Prince William County Virginia, Will Book C 1734-1744 by John Frederick Dorman: pages 95-97. Will of Joseph Chapman, dated 26 March Joseph Chapman of Prince William County being sick and weake of body.
To my son Joseph Chapman my plantation' whereon I live and 11 the tract thereunto beloning which contains one hundred ad fifty acres.
Unto my son Joseph one tract of land adjoynins to the foresaid tract containinc one hundred and twelve acres.
To my son John Chapman three hundred acres of land, being the major part of that tract out of which I have given one hundred and twelve acres to my son Joseph.
To my loving dughter Mary Chapran one cow and calf the same to be a young cow with her first calf.
To my loving daughter Sarah Chapman one cow and calf the same to be a young cow with her first calf.
To my loving daughter Violleta Chapman one cow and calf the same to be a young cow with her first calf.
To my loving daughter Elizabeth Chapman one cow and calf the same to be a young cow with her first calf.
To my loving daughter Mary Chapman my large family Bible.
To my dear and loving wife Sarah Chapman all the remaining part of my estate both real and personal and likewise appoint, constitute and ordain my most dear and well beloved wife Sarah Chapman my whole and sole executrix.
