      Samuel T. Chandler was born in Caroline County, Virginia. He was born about 1837. He married Jane Umn in Caroline County, Virginia. Some suggest that Jane's maiden name was Todd, but others state she is a distant Chandler cousin. Most of their children were born in Caroline County, Virginia. They moved to Charles County by 1877 according to birth places of children in 1880 census.

      At this time we do not know when Jane died, but Samuel married a second time to Caroline “Carrie” Winter Cobey Adams on May 6, 1891 at Durham by Rev. W.P. Painter. She was the widow of Edwin Adams. Samuel was confirmed June 13, 1892. He died on Feb. 20, 1894 from drowning when his boat capsized in Nanjemoy Creek. His body was found in March and he was buried at Durham Church March 21, 1894 by Rev. W.P. Painter. Row North 22 #11.

      His second wife, Carrie, died NOV. 25, 1899 from Typhoid Pneumonia. She is buried in Row North 22 #9 See Cobey Family file

      Samuel T. Chandler, together with a colored man[Pad Turner], was drowned Tuesday in Nanjemoy Creek. Prominent citizen of 3rd election district. Lived on the large Taylor [Tayloe] estate in Nanjemoy. Native of Caroline County, VA., came here about 20 years ago and with Mr. Callahan, former partner, settled on present estate. Confederate soldier, distinguished himself for gallant conduct in several of great battles fought on Virginia soil.
      Married second time about three years ago to Mrs.[Edwin] Adams, sister of Dr. A.D. Cobey of Washington. 55 years[old] Leaves wife, several children.

      Samuel T. Chandler's body found floating on surface of Nanjemoy Creek. Found by Napoleon Jameson. Services at Durham. W.P. Painter.

      Pad Turner, colored man who was drowned with Samuel T. Chandler, body found on Friday in Nanjemoy Creek about a mile from the place where it is supposed the boat capsized. William C. Jameson who lives at Blossom Point opposite farm where Chandler lived, saw something floating. Called W.W. Cobey who was dredging for bodies in the creek.....

      2. Charles Todd Chandler Sr. married Mary Augusta Haislip. She was the daughter of Alexander and Josephine Williams Haislip. Mary Augusta Haislip b. 1877 She was baptized and confirmed June 13, 1892 at Durham Church (Rev. Painter, rector). Listed as a communicant. She married Charles T. Chandler on Feb. 12, 1901 at Durham by the Rev. C.J. Wingate.
      Mary Augusta died Feb. 16, 1951 at the age of 72. She is buried at Durham. Rev. R.B. Stevenson performed the burial. Her grave is located on Row 22N 7A. (Cremation)
      Charles Todd Chandler Sr. born Aug. 1871 in (assumed) Caroline County, Va. He died April 15, 1938 at the age of 66. Rev. R.B. Stevenson performed the burial held at Durham. His grave is located Row 22N #7. (See Haislip Family)
